I'll type slower for you. Before he held out he was owed $1 million this year and then the Jets could buy back next year for $5 million and the last year for $15 million. In your scenario he makes $55 million for 3 years which is even $10 million above Aso's contract which would be ridulous. That is a $34 million bump you want to give him for adding no years to the contract. It make absolutely no sense at all so please stop.
You are selectively taking my post out of context. I am not saying the Jets shouldn't pay Mevi$. I am saying the Jets shouldn't be basing there salary offer on the contract some senile has-been gave Aso. If you give Mevi$ $16 million now, you kill any leverage you have with any player on the team and you bust the cap. Give him some up front $$$ and help him out this year. But it is a two-way street. If Mevi$ wants $16 million, send him to Oakland or Detroit and he can play for perennial 4-12 teams. If playing football and collecting Super Bowl rings are important to Mevi$, then he will need to take a bit less to play on a contender.

I did factor that in my original post and you choose to disregard that. I think the Jets should sign him long-term for about $12 million a season. I don't think the Jets should base their salary structure on what the crypt keeper does out in Oakland in signing Aso to $16 million a year. IF they do that, they kill the entire salary structure for the team and you won't have to worry about the Jets getting to a Super Bowl any time soon. You will be stuck with a 9 or 10 win team with a $16 million CB.

I am amused at how a few of the more irrational Revis fans lacking eloquence in this thread think that the team hasn't already found ways to improve over last season without Revis. As if the only other cornerbacks on the roster were three clones of Drew Coleman. As if Sanchez hasn't become more proficient with the offense this offseason. As if "shit happens" isn't valid anymore if Revis was signed. I'm not saying Revis isn't important, but he's not negotiating with a team run by Al Davis, and his representation is not doing him any favors considering they all have a track record of holding out and making life difficult for owners. In this case, they're also blatantly disregarding the ramifications of the expiring CBA on the team's future budgeting needs. Don't be stupid. Just because Revis produced Stats on 91 plays doesn't mean those are the only times he affected a play. How about the times a QB looks his way to see a blanketed WR and had to throw one out of bounds, or got sacked. The Center argument is weak too. Yes he calls the protections, but saying he handles the ball on every play-- come on. Even the worst Center in the league can snap the ball into his QB's hands safely 99.9% of the time. That is expected. What Revis does by holding the leagues best WR to under 50 yards per game every week is not expected.
