Bottom line is this Jets are going nowhere this year. They extended Mo last year, have money coming to Leonard. You can only invest so much money in one position. Especially as a rebuilding team with money needed across the roster in the future. This is a great decision. Same reason the Bills traded Sammy. They weren't investing long term, and got what they could rather than watching him walk and getting a comp pick. Plus, the trade itself is pretty good. The Jets have wanted a first forever. While they may not have gotten a first, they got a player at a position of need, but the real meat is getting that 2nd round pick. This was a business decision. And a smart one.
Agreed, no point keeping him around for one 0-16 season and then seeing him walk, might as well get some return for our value, and I think based on Richardson's last two years, suspensions and everything, locker room feuds, etc, we got a great deal. A second is more than I would have expected, would of thought more along the lines of a 3rd or 4th, plus a decent WR, I like it.
Anyone that complains about this trade is not dealing in reality and does not understand the business of football. I would have setteled for a third rounder at this point. Fantastic move for both teams. Glad for Sheldon, hope he wins a Super Bowl. Like guys that call it like its, not enough of them. He did some stupid shit but he's young with lots of dough. Great job Mac, good Luck Sheldon. What DL is gonna make the team because of this trade?
This also makes it easier to keep at least of Pennel,Simon & Mclendon all of whom are decent & mclendon is a leader
What? Why wasn't he traded for an OL? Terrible move! LOL Seriously, GREAT trade. Not sure what I like most...getting an additional 2nd round pick in next year's draft, or getting rid of Richardson. Adding Kearse should at least add some more experience to our receiving corps, and as KurtTheJetsFan said, it may open up another spot on D for Pennel or another player that can help the team.
We will be getting lost of guys off the waiver wire inlcuding OL so tomorrows cuts are just the start of building the roster for next week so if I was a Jet player at the bottom of the roster and did not get cut on Saturday I would not sign a lease just yet. We could break a record for signing waver players. With all the NFL pre season cuts in one day Mac and crew gonna busy as hell. We need a KR and PR really bad.
Don't forget, we also picked up Kony Ealy for nothing so in a sense we got two starters and a second round pick to trade one starter. Good move IMO.
He doesn't have a place on this team and we got good value. We needed some experience and he's a decent receiver. Plus we got a 2nd round pick.
This is a very good move overall. Don't care at all about Kearse but the 2nd could be a big help down the road. Good job Mac holding out for the best deal possible. Can't imagine there was a better one than this. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
IMHO it's very good value for us. I like the 2nd which I never imaged we get and we get a proven verteran WR that will help the young guys even if it maybe only one year... I think he is gone next year.
Does the $8M come off books and get rolled into next year? This also helps the team do worse thus year. Very pleased.
If he does, so be it. We all know it anyway. Maybe if he does. Woody will hear it and make the needed changes.
The 8 million moved with the player. Kearse was 2.2 million so we reduced our cap by 5.8 million. Next year his salary is a liitle over 5 million and he's has no guaranteed money left so if we cut him in the off season no dead money
