truer words never spoken. Don't bench Vlad and Gates--cut them. Any 2 practice squad players from any other team could do better.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 5m Rookie Brian Winters will "probably" replace Ducasse as Jets starting LG v Falcons, I'm told. Will get more 1st-tm reps in practice this wk
No choice but to sit Vlad now. His pass blocking has regressed incredibly. It's one thing to have pressure up the middle but quite another when Vlad doesn't even slow the guy down. He's been easily confused on stunts a few times as well. Even on the TD to Hill in the Buffalo game Geno was lucky to get that ball off as the pressure came straight up the middle as Vlad barely touched his rusher.
I hope Winters run blocks and/or pass protects well as I would hate to replace someone that is beast at the former and inconsistent at the other with someone that isn't any good at either. I don't know why people get so worked up when Ducasse whiffs on an occasional pass block. So far this year I've seen several whiffs by Tommy Bohanon that have almost gotten Geno killed but that is never mentioned.
If Marty insists on throwing the ball as much as he has I'd rather have a better pass blocker playing than Vlad. Pressure up the middle is so much more disruptive than from the edges as it's the straighest line and shortest way to the QB. QB's can step up and away from outside pressure if they sense it. The inside pressure has caused Geno to try to do too much. He runs straight backwards trying to avoid it. Credit him for trying to use his athleticism but it's hard to avoid a rusher coming straight at you at nearly full speed while the QB is flat footed attempting to look downfield. As for Bohannon he isn't an every down player like an O-lineman so his pass blocking isn't anywhere near the issue that Vlad's has become.

Another source stating Jets will move Winters ahead of Vlad. Hope this is true. Time to slow down the jailbreaks through Turnstile62 that have been the major problem in the pass offense this season
Offensive Line is as strong as its weakest link. For his improvement in blocking, he more than made up for it with his damn penalties. OL constantly got dominated. Don't know wtf you guys were watching.
Geno Smith is well protected: Averaging 3.11 seconds/time in pocket per pass play, 2nd among starters, per @ESPNStatsInfo.
I'm all for ducasse being replaced b/c he is making a ton of mental errors & clearly is the weakest link on the line. That said...I think the OL has played pretty darn well as a unit. Geno has had time to throw in most cases. Fans have a habit of blaming any offensive failure on the OL w/o looking at what is really happening.
Clyde de Milo. I remember your Warmack avator and I myself watched Warmack all of last season and was calling for them to grab him. While I understood Bradx5x4way's contention that you don't draft OGs that high, I viewed Warmack as a special case, i.e. on a different level than e.g. David Decastro (the OG out of Stanford the Steelers grabbed in '12) who's been dinged up and so-so overall. Warmack was an NFL-ready-to-go beast.
