And the Fall Fishing Season has Begun!

Big Blues already here off the Jersey Coast. Porgies by the bucket load. Sea Bass starting up again on Oct. 22nd but with a 13" /25ct. bag limit. Today is the last day of Fluke (Summer Flounder) season and believe or not, I passed on it. Next weekend looking like a washout already but you nevah kno. Time to load up for the winter boyz! Weather cooling and shorter days should get the fish motivated!

    Fish On!!

Had a 20% off coupon for Gander, so I picked up a Shimano Baitrunner 8000D
When I'm gonna use it is the other question. ;)

(unfortunately their rod selection SUCKED, so I still have to pick up a stout spin rod)

Good reel. Especially for live bait fishing. I've become a Shimano Man myself lately. I got several new items that I've kept under wraps as they were not approved by wifey. :)

yeah, intended as a free-line bait rod when we're bottom fishing...... but theyre stout enough to jig up fish. These are my charter buddy's go-to reels for cobia fishing.

I really gotta get down your way in '17. Kinda like fishing bluish waters for different fish. BTW, I was gonna take my new Shimano rig out this weekend but Mama Nature has different plans so it looks like several more weeks before I can get out on the water.

Porgy running right now as the big blues hang back in deep water. Not a real big fan of porgy so I'm kinda neutral on fishing for them. 50 9in fish just doesn't get my juices flowin. Hopefully some boats will do combo trips and not stay on porgys all day.

Damn baller...... that's too nice for me. ;)

but yeah, I don't get the fishing for Porgies thing, especially ringtails. My brother will tell me excitedly how they would catch porgies, and my response is.... meh, ok.

Offshore Pink Porgies on the other hand...... min size here is 14" and they taste as good as snapper

This far north, our "bluewater" fishing is pretty far offshore. ALot different than SFL, but the inshore fishing is generally better (sans snook, as we dont really get the big ones up here)

Works for me.. Still headed your way in '17. Hell, the only time I got to fish bluish water off Jersey was right after Sandy. Water was a really strange looking aqua and this was about 2weeks after the storm.

I'm good with the usual brownish/green water as long as I don't see any syringes or beer bottles floating by.. :)

Blackfish are on a rampage off the Jersey Coast! Bluefish to 20lbs too. The Porgy run seems to be slowing down and Sea Bass starts Saturday, Oct. 22. 15 fish bag limit and 13" size limit.
With Cod and Flounder still around, this is perhaps the best time of the year to fill the freezer! I'll be fishing until it starts snowing!

    Fish On!

Going on my first deep wreck trip next saturday on the Jamaica II out of Brielle. We'll be going 20-50miles offshore to where the big boys roam. I've heard tell that folks are just filling coolers with really big fish out there. I've also heard there are Makos and other denizens of the briny out to hijack your catch as you reel it up. Should be a lot of fun! 14hrs on the water! Yay!!

Those Jumbo Porgies are really good eatin. We've been hitting them more than keeper Seabass. Some of those Porgies are going 3lbs or better now.

Have had a really nice fall run in the surf starting with that first nor'easter towrds the end of Sep't. A good run of Bass, and the blues finally showed up last week on the western s. shore. I'll give it a couple of more weeks as long as Mother Nature sees fit that I do.

No big bass for me this year...yet....talkin' cows...but plenty of quality up to 20 lbs. for me at least. But got into some gorilla gators last week and had one that may have hit 20 lbs., a bunch over 15 anyway.

A nice buffer to the depressing team of ours. I really have kinda resigned myself to the fate that we suck and may never turn it around, and don't care as much anymore.

Holding out hope that Petty or Hack can put it together for us yet tho anyway.......

Well Walt, there's always Draft Day and the Spring Striper run to look forward to.. With this early warm up, water temps should crack 50F a few weeks sooner than last year. Personally, I'm happy that Cod and Pollack seem to be getting more active. That's my next trip sometime in Mid March depending on Momma Nature.

You know this is the first time in like 25 years I'm not really following the draft process, mainly because of the Jests.

Right around Draft Night it picks up with Bass, and Blues most likely. If I have have a shot at fish I'll go and miss the draft on TV for the first time in all those years. That's we're I'm at with this team....

Great Day at the Fishing Expo! Picked up some Grundens gear and some teasers for the spring Cod/Striper/Bluefish runs. Almost took a trip over to NYC but after figuring what it would cost to both get into the city AND park, I passed. Really did want to get over the Katz for a Pastrami on Rye with mustard.. :(
