It honestly makes you wonder. How could people getting paid a decent wage actually get that job, let alone keep it?

They don’t keep it. 3 gms 4 coaches in 17 years. And if mac adds to this list anymore it will be 4 & 5

You say that but the Dolphins had a lot of good defensive players (John Offerdahl, etc.). If nothing else their defenses we're good enough to keep our sorry asses out of the playoffs on several occasions so.

And they shouldn't. "Stability" for stability's sake isn't a good thing. But your point points out the REAL problem: clueless owners.

meh, he has made some mistakes but he 's getting better. everyone kills him for idzic but he used the same head hunter firm that delivered schneider to the seahawks. casserly and wolf are 2 highly respected names that gave us what we have now. bradway came fro the chiefs, was highly touted, tanny was a bill protoge. seems to me he knows what he doesn't know and looks to the successful people/franchises for guidance. his 2 biggest crimes were being too loyal to 1st bradway and 2nd rex.

Is it loyalty, or just not wanting to admit a mistake? I think the latter. In addition to Bradway and Rex, he's been too "loyal" to Macc and Bowles, especially Bowles.

I do give him some credit for trying to go to some experts for help, but we don't know what parameters he imposed on them - salary, no experience, etc. - if any. And in the end it was Woody who had to make the decisions, and even with expert help, he still didn't know enough IMO. The results speak for themselves.

Again, I don't know how old you are, or how many losing/mediocre seasons you've endured, but you're much more willing to let time unfold than I am.

i started in 83, and i am willing to let time go by because i look at the teams with long lists of coaches and i know its not a coincidence that they are all the teams with short lists of accomplishments. you can't build something good if you start fro scratch every 3-4 years.

Yeah, but you can't build anything good when what you start with isn't any good.

Look, I hear what you're saying, and I agree with the theory, but the implementation has been terrible, and for decades. I don't think what you're saying is, "Give a guy as long as he needs and he'll eventually be good", but what's your criteria for determining if the guy is worth waiting on?

All I can say is, from my experience, the guys who succeed are guys who have some kind of blueprint or plan and they get guys that fit that plan, both coaches and players. But I don't see Bowles (or Macc for that matter) having any kind of plan or blueprint, and that's what gives me no confidence in them.

i don't know if there is a set period of time but like porn, i know it when i see it. so far i haven't seen it with this regime yet
.fans say they don't see a plan because the players don't check off the shopping lists they made during the offseason. seems to me though, they definitely have a few characteristics they like in draft picks and though the first 2 drafts were a bit thin this last one looks pretty good and i want to see where this could go.

as for the in game stuff, every coach makes second guessable calls every game, whether too conservative or too aggressive. usually based on the strength of the team. it's only a problem if the calls fly against what the team is capable, imo
