My generation (The non-existent one between Millennials and Gen X) was the last to use it as slang. It's just what we said and didn't think much of it. No one was out in the open back in high school. Things changed a couple classes after us. We are similar to the Millennials but we didn't have computers with decent internet as kids. We were still allowed to play outside without the police being called on our parents for neglect.
According to Harvard and Princeton, 84 is the end of gen x and 85 begins Millenials. For some reason older gen x people like to make their cohort exclusive like some odd number of years like ya know..... Math wasnt important or anything in determining them. That being said gen x began the crazy computer boom, the difference is, it wasn't so prevalent in the home and outside. I certainly remember having my nextel and aol instant messenger tho.
