I think the young players are playing hard simply because they have to if they want to have an NFL career, internal motivation is more important than the external motivation. I don't know how significant Bowles is to them playing hard. Remember, this isn't a team full of vets who got their money long ago. Sure, they're *supposed* to play hard. I mean, what else can you demand from the players, especially with the current QB? You want McCown to become Wentz? Or ASJ to become Gronk? Or Anderson being Bryant? Players have their potentials and they work within that frame. If your team is full of players with low potential who don't win even if they fulfill their potential fully, then you simply need to look for better players. Regardless, the fact that players are trying their best to fulfill their potential is something worth hanging your hat on because it's better than players rolling over. This team is promising, I think we can all agree on that, we just need a QB who will enable the players to reach their full potential.
You both make valid points. I was thinking more of the 2011 team where Santonio Holmes gifted the Dolphins a fumble at the end of the year. We'll have to see how this team finishes out. Bowles gets a good grade for how the team has performed thus far despite the murmurs of having this horrific roster. There's a lot of football left and plenty of time for the team to quit. I like what I've seen so far though. I'm also usually an eternal optimist so we shall see if my opinion changes at the end of the year.
For some reason I feel in a few more weeks when we are 3 - 8 a lot less fans will be clamoring about how hard they are playing.
In Bowles coaching world that is a major accomplishment. Being prepared, making in game adjustments well that extra stuff he's not used too. It's almost impossible this guy ever played or coached under Parcells and Joe Gibbs. What did the Jets see in this guy to give him a job.
Sorry can't stomach another year of Bowles. This guy is not progressing at all. The players know it and management is always late to the game. Send a message and fire him before the season is over.
That's one way to look at. But being featured means he can shoot more and possibly get a bigger contract. Gotta keep that homewrecker Gabrielle Union happy now.
Playing hard is code for, "I don't feel like talking about the exact plays and reasons we won or lost". Yeah they are playing hard. So is the rest of the NFL. It's not like teams go out there and don't try.
You're 100% right. There's NO personal pride to take in a team that is anything less than a champion. Just because we're surprising a few football fans by winning more than ZERO games is nothing to to take pride in. The surprise in winning a few games is already getting boring.
Playing hard is not a virtue we should be praising them about. I am not saying it has no merit, but playing hard is hardly sufficient to win on any given Sunday. Sun Tzu had this to say: "Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory." I am more than certain that the losing side fights just as hard, if not harder.
Lost the locker room last year, penalties galore this year..does anyone else see the severe flaw in a conservative defensive head coach that’s teams lack discipline??
Thank the rain - many people will think this was a close game. [It was anything but.] P.S. This year, Jets are getting penalized a lot. I don't see the cheaters do that. I have to wonder why.
