He presented our weekly highlights show on Channel 4 back in the 1986 season. He always came over as a classy guy.
Howard Cosell, Don Meredith and now Frank Gifford. That's the whole booth from Monday Night Football in the 70's finally gone on the wind. I hope John Madden lives to be 100. That one is really going to hurt when it happens.
Dierdorf told a good story this am, said that Gifford liked to joke "If I had hit Bednarik and harder I might have killed him". LOL. _
Yeah was before my time but I remember reading about it and seeing the pics. Giff sat out the entire next season. _
Wow, didn't know he sat out the next season. There's film of it that I've seen, first time I've seen the pics tho. Good pics of the old Yankee Stadium My father was at the game, he was a ST holder. I was kinda a Giants, and Jets fan growing up, and was familiar with the old Giants teams because he was a big Jints fan. That Y.A. Tittle pic where he's on his knees bleeding was a classic
Reading about Gifford, one thing that stood out was how he was one who helped the general public see the NFL as interesting, even glamorous. In the age of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, in NYC Gifford gave them some competition coming from his sport, this of course being several years before Namath showed up in town.
