FJay I would even watch ch 47 on I think it was Tuesday nights,,,My brother would go to so many wrestling cards at the Garden I was too young but always wanted to go but I never saw Bruno wrestle LIVE back then. I remember when he took a young up and comer under his wing and when that up and comer turned heel and attacked Bruno it was classic,,,,,,it was Larry Zbyszco
Damn this made me google the match when Bruno got busted up and bloodied from Zyszco,,,,,,also made me watch Rick Flairs induction speech on Rowdy Roddy my favorite but I stray
Walt ,thats his name in the poster but I don't think either pic is him,,,could be wrong but guy on top does not look at all like him
Okay, I don't know lol I just remember the names from tv as a kid. And I always remembered Haystacks Calhoun as some monstrosity lol.
Not only don't I associate him with WWE, I don't even think of him as WWF: he was from the days before then, when it was the WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation). He was a genuine strong man, once setting the world record for the bench press, and he was supposedly drug-free his entire career.
My Dad is a huge Bruno fan. He was sad to hear the news today. RIP. I agree, besides being in the WWE HOF, I don't associate him with it either.
Growing up he was the Champ for over 7 years,,,,he carried wrestling on his back and packed MSG each month . When he lost to Ivan Koloff that was huge stuff him losing to the hated Russian. Pedro Morales was also Champ back then for a very long time but you don't hear much about him but people loved him and he represented for quite long time. I guess its an age thing and who you grew up with, if you are younger you have no clue who these guys are kinda like folks talking about Richard Todd or Matt Robinson,,,lol
Matt those were great times,,,,,hard to believe this guy was actually a teacher or professor lol what a great gimmick
