A damn shame. BP was the most reliable player on the roster for the past 5 seasons. One of the most underrated backs in the league IMO. He will be sorely missed.
It sucks that this is probably how his Jet career is going to end. Hopefully he is able to make a full recovery after his surgery and not have any long term problems.
This is heartbreaking news to hear about Powell... he was always one of my faves from the current era.
LOL..the last game I saw at Shea Stadium had Johhny Hector running down the line trying to get outside in an losing effort against the Steelers. Damn cold that day too as I recall
one of my favorites in recent memory ... he always reminded me of another one my favorites, adrian murrell (number and all)
today Bowles said powell is having survery and is expected to recover 100% next year. apparently it was "a misunderstanding of things". "
Will he be ready for the...PLAYOFFS?!? Actually, this is really good new apart from the football angle.
i don't think we will. he has been great and love powell to death but he's a 30 year old easily replaceable RB and we have crowell (he has an out in his deal but doens't cost much and has done well) and maguire and cannon on rookie contracts and both showed some flashes already. unless we are going to get a barkley/gurley type RB doens't make sense to pay a veteran RB next season who isn't already under contract
So sorry to hear this. A real class act, a true Jet who gave it his all. I hope its not over and he gets to control his own destiny.
Jets coach Todd Bowles backtracked on the severity of Bilal Powell's season-ending neck injury, which will require surgery. Bowles, who said yesterday it could possibly be career ending, said there was a "misunderstanding." Today, Bowles said Powell is "expected to make a full recovery for next year." It doesn't mean he'll be back with the Jets (he's a free agent) but that's great news. Bowles said Powell's injury is similar to Quincy Enunwa's 2017 neck surgery, which kept him out of contact drills for about 9-10 months.
Cannon isn’t a lock for next years roster. Powell will be brought back just to ensure there’s competition at the position. He’ll take a 1 year nothing guaranteed deal. He won’t have many options at this point.
he isn't a lock but he's an option. he's looked good so far and 3rd RBs aren't used too often. no reason to pay big money to a player who plays a few snaps a game. there is also drafting a RB in the late rounds of the draft again as well or signing a free agent cheaply
