Optimistic Pennington Hopes to Remain a Jet Chad Pennington held an impromptu conference call late Tuesday afternoon to discuss his status with the New York Jets. The seventh-year passer from Marshall, who is working out daily at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida, and the Jets are in the midst of negotiations to restructure his contract, which reportedly has five years remaining, although the Jets, per their policy, do not discuss terms of contracts. "I believe in a win-win situation, and I believe there is a middle ground here that we can both agree upon and come to a conclusion where things can work out for both sides," Pennington said. A number of media outlets have reported that Pennington is set to make $9M in '06 ($6M base salary and $3M roster bonus). General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, who has returned from Indianapolis, would like to lower that cap figure. Tannenbaum met with Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, last weekend at the Combine. "Tom is going to look out for my best interests, and the Jets are going to look out for the organization's best interests," said Pennington. "We've had many conversations," Tannenbaum said last week. "I'll just leave it at that. We're in the middle of active negotiations."
Either fits. If he is being honest, I don't want to hear it. If he is just playing up to the media, he can go to hell because nobody likes fake kindness, either.
Why all the Chad hatred? What if he comes back and can play at the top of his game? I'm not saying it will happen, but what if? Will everyone suddenly love the guy again? I'm holding judgement on Penny until everything is done. I hope we can work it out with him, and I hope he comes back and leads this team the way he has in the past.
even though i wouldnt mind chad being cut. i hope he comes back and overcomes the injury. but being at the top of his game? i doubt it
best case scenario is to keep chad and re sign Vinny. let Vinny start all of 2006 and let chad heal up his shoulder as the bu, after we win the superbowl in '06 and Vinny rides off into the sunset, re turn over the reins to chad in 2007.
Why all the Chad hatred? He received a $64 million dollar contract which = poor arm strength, late delivery, limited mobility, can't keep sideline throws inbounds, under throws deep balls etc. What really concerns me is that this so-called intelligent quarterback against good defenses seems dazed and confused. He throws into double and triple coverage and doesn't see wide open receivers. I think when people assess Chad; we tend to compare him to the 2002 Chad, unfortunately with all the injuries to his shoulder and his wrist. I truly believe he cannot recapture that form again and be an elite QB in the league. Peace out.
I am really starting to think he needs one more chance in 2006. There are very good odds that we won't be a playoff team in 2006, so why not test our investment one more time? Hope that it wasn't a complete waste.
