if only there were incentives for everything. There hasnt been any agreement because of money. For the players and teams protecting themselves for the same reason. There should be incentives for everything. There have been big busts with big contracts and players getting the minimum when they are playing like all pro's. Players should be paid accordingly. You play good you get payed good, you play great you get payed great. That will never happen but it should it will help alot of things. Its bullshit... If players have tremendous potential and are going to be considered top picks then they should play that level and will get paid as such. Some players can be great but when they get that huge payday they slack off because they feel they got paid already and fuck it. Thats how alot of players think, and its wrong. We as blue collar workers get raises based upon our performance thru the year, it should be how the NFL is runned. If it would be this way, you would see alot of players give it their all, all the time and get payed for it accordingly, this way they would know, you want to get paid? play hard all the time. And dont slack off because you got paid already and can be lazy because of it. And by this happening we would see a much more competitive and fun NFL for everyone.
Charlie Finley had it right. 1 year deals for all players in all sports no guarantees no upfront bonus no cap.
But then player turnover is massive and teams stuggle to form an identity, resulting in the support drifting away. Look at NFL Europe if you don't believe me.
Adopt the NBA system? So the Jets can look like the Knicks? I'll pass..which is more than the Knicks do!
