Its exactly this 'March hare' approach that has been so damning for us in constant rebuilding. Being dictated to by other teams success and trying to play catch up before we are ready is band aid mentality which just does not work. Sure we'll give the Pats the odd ass kicking, but it doesn't mean a thing when they constantly win the div year after year since 2002! I like this 'glacial' approach, after-all they did shape the world
Berry is still on the FA market? Not sure. And yeah, as you suggested threatening to take the BPA on 18 is the right move. It makes the Jets unpredictable and increases the chances somebody will want to trade for the pick.
That's why he'll have a bright shiny new quarter in his pocket. Heads - make the deal. Tails - turn it down.
I absolutely love where we are at 18, just over half the board gone and teams behind us starting to panic, we can go anywhere. Although I would love to land someone like Ebron or Lee I would also love us to trade down a couple of spots and pick up another 2 & 3 and possibly still end up getting one of our top picks.
Ryan days?!?! ........ and the New York Jets select..... Tight End, Penn State....... Kyyylllll..........
Your probably right, and Idzik drafted like 15 lineman last year and the juries still out on all of them, so he may wait another year to see what pans out before dropping a #1 on a LT/RT. But sooner or later he WILL drop a #1 on a o-lineman. Heck we dropped 2 #1's on the o-line and got Brick and Mangold. It sucks at the time because o-line pics are so boring, but it's one of the few positions that pays huge dividends for years to come. A great o-line is more important than even a great QB, simply b/c all QBs struggle when getting blasted every play.
I can see Idzik spending 3 draft picks on Oline this year, I know it sounds bad but the line has under performed and the Jets have 12 picks. He's been doing the diamond in the ruff thing for OL, they won out with Howard in the short term using that approach. I have trashed Bradway for years, but the guy's scout team found Brandon Moore and Jonathan Goodwin with little in terms of draft resources. I'll trust Bradway on this one.
I'd be all for that in the 4th round and up, we definitely have the picks so if they see a guard or tackle they like they should take him. Mangold/Brick/Colon are only getting older so it would be nice to have a few young prospects behind them ready to go.
I think this is complete nonsense. You make it sound like you think Idzik's critics have absolutely no basis for being critical. I doubt you really think that, but that is what you come accross as saying. But let's go with your post. If there is no basis for criticism of Idzik, then why do you think people are critical of him?
Because it makes people buy papers. The media has been particularly two-faced towards the Jets or 1 particular player for years now. It's been one dramatized piece of lazily written negative commentary after the other lately. Idzik's detractors have no real basis for being critical, only an imaginary basis made up by writers. He hasn't done a single thing wrong yet. I'm not saying he'll be the greatest GM ever, I'm not even saying he'll last in NY. All I'm saying is there is so obviously no reason to hate on this guy, he hasn't done anything wrong. The narrative exists only because Idzik has shut out the writers, and they never would have been so negative towards Tannenbaum because he didn't shut them out like that. If you'll notice Tannenbaum never got any flak from any writers, just fans, right up until he was fired. Beat writers who are relatively welcome in an organization don't write that negatively, they would never risk losing that stream of info/writing material. Tannenbaum clearly was making all kinds of bad moves yet never really received much public criticism, isn't it obvious why they have such a negative view of Idzik so early in his tenure? It's because he shut them out from everything other than the designated press conferences, where they don't really say anything. The New York media needs drama and since there isn't any they have to make it up.
At least. If he doesn't trade any away and takes a CB, Safety, WR and QB that leaves him with 8 picks still to spend.
They did draft two guys last year and I expect them to draft 1 or 2 more oline players this year. Then by '15 one or two of the '13 or '14 oline guys will probably be starting.
He will be far more prepared than many GMs IMO. He will know exactly what the value of the trade will be and stick to his guns. Just because he might not pull the trigger is no indication of his preparedness. I would bet heavily that if we had Idzik instead of Tanny we would not have traded up for Sanchez nor Hill...and rightfully so.
I agree (provided they first look to add some offensive skill position talent). One guy in particular I'd like to see them grab with one of their 4ths would be Trai Turner, OG out of LSU. Btw Byz, did you get those 2 camel race pix?
If the media portrayed him as wisely and precisely planning years of domination by the Jets, everyone would love him. Of course, some would manage to build castles of negativity all by themselves I suppose.
