I like the signing of Marcum , cheap option and can be traded at the deadline if as expected we are wallowing in ineptitude..

Also if we can get Oswalt he will be a good 5th pitcher and allow us to work a trade for the likes of Gee + AAA prospect for an above average OF as our outfield is a pile of day old shit

I like the Marcum deal as well, I think the Dickey deal was something they had to do and I like getting 3 quality minor leagers back for him. I do however wish Dickey the best in Canada. He is the kid of guy that us easy to root for.

I am not impressed with the lack of major league outfielders at all on the roster but it sounds like the GM is doing his best to not trade top arms to fill a hole until there is a chance we can compete. Sound thinking IMO. The Braves got upton at about half the value they were demanding from the Mets.

Please sign Roy Oswalt. Would give us a rotation of Santana, Marcum, Niese, Harvey/Gee, and Oswalt. May the best pitcher (except Harvey) be traded for prospects!!

This was proposed in 2011, but it looks like the Mets have revisited this plan. The city rejected it and MLB is very averse to any gambling links. Maybe Pete Rose can manage the place! :)

The Mets proposed a way to offset crappy ticket sales: build a casino next to Citi Field! They will probably have a lot of hurdles to clear in order to build their casino. The largest problem will probably be the Resorts Casino which is already located in Queens. Perhaps they can call it the "Bernie Madoff Memorial Ponzi Palace" or something. After all, his investors had the same odds of winning. Here is today's New York Post headline:

I like the marlon Byrd signing. It's a minor league deal so when he fails the PED test the mets loose very little and he adds much needed exp to the outfield.

Not that bothered about Bourn to be honest , 5 years was too muh for his skill set / age profile.

Having said that our outfield is as bad as the Jets qb situation....not sure we can address this year but 2014 FA class is a good one and we willfinally have shed the Minaya contracts and spend some money.... no I haven't been drinking

One area we seem to have improved is the bullpen..i like Parnell as a closer guy seems to have added a third pitch which stops him trying to light up the speed gun every time

2014 free agent outfields jacoby Ellsbury Hunter Pence and Corey Hart. Plus we have Brandon Nimmo and Matt Den Decker in the minors. No need to give Bourn a 5 year Omar Minaya deal just to get a player

I'm more excited about this season then I have been about baseball in a long time. Part of it is I have been out of country for the last few seasons but I gotta say I like the way Alderson has been building this team.

They aren't ready to seriously compete but I could see them being exciting and winning 80-85 games.

Hopefully Santana stays healthy and pitches well. Can be moved at the deadline to a contender. Oh and there is a 2nd baseman who is a free agent next year named Robinson Cano

Who on the Mets would even be asked to play in the WBC besides Wright? Niese, Ike Davis?

Besides Santana, I guess the only one so far is Wright. Risking the face of the franchise for this garbage certainly does not make me happy.

Wright playing in the WBC gives me a reason to watch.

Like what Alderson is doing here ...we have some very tradeable players if as expected we are not in contention come trade deadline...Buck , Santana , Byrd , Gee will all be possible trade bait in my view..
I really believe in 2014 we will compete....at last

Anyway wanted to continue 17a's wishlist and add my own!!

Next year with a pitching unit based around Niese , Harvey and Wheeler with a No 3 and 5 added...

    Harvey
    Niese,
Garza ...should be mid range costwise,

    Wheeler
    Marcum type FA

plus a bullpen with Meija as the long innings guy, Edgin , Familia , feliciano , FA, Parnell and a top class closer ( Fernando Rodney or Joel Hanrahan!!) we have an above average pitching unit

Then on to the hitters....and infield / outfield ....

    C: D'Arnaud
1st Base : Davis if he maintains his 2nd half of 2012
2nd Base: Omar Infante ... good solid 2b..
    3rd Base: Wright
    SS: Tejada
LF : Duda - His bat gets him the gig...if his bat drops off David Murphy or
CF : Carlos Gomez...welcomeback to a steady bat and good OF
RF : Nelson Cruz ...good solid role player with the Texans..alt Ryann Sweeney..cheap and Oakland connection from his earlier days

    Thats my projections and wishlist!

not a fan of the 2 outfield pickups
nelson cruz not a chance last year his usual home runs were deep outs and now he is linked to PED's w/braun and melty.
gomez is roger cedeno part 2.

I think Gomez would fit well as he would be affordable allowing us to spend elsewhere whilst bringing glove skills and a decent obp

Re Cruz I hear you but still think his overall numbers were ok , I just don't see us getting a Pence type player .

Must admit I like David Murphy , He can play all 3 outfield positions and has power hitting abilities

There is no way in hell the Mets will even be in the running to sign Cano. From the way Alderson has been running the team, I can't see the Mets out-bidding the Skanks for one of their top players. Going after an OF next year like Pence and singing an actual closer (because Parnell will not be the Mets closer come September) seems more realistic.
