NEW ORLEANS -- Joe Namath walked the red carpet at NFL Honors on Saturday, because, of course he did. He's Joe Namath. Around The League caught up with the legendary quarterback, who's been suspiciously quiet about the New York Jets in recent months. There was a time in the not-so-distant past when Namath had an opinion on everything Gang Green. He purposely shared less as the Jets sank to 6-10 this season. "I'm an eyeball kind of guy. I can see an athlete, where some players can fool other people," he said. "I have an eye for things. I have an ear that goes along with that eye that I can get a little irritated when I hear some stuff being said that's not real, it's not true, it's not right." We asked Namath for an example. "'This is the best team we've had since I've been here,' " Namath said, recalling an infamous quote from Jets coach Rex Ryan in August. "You want to start out before the season? Come on! I don't like beating somebody over the head with negativity, I want to see some positive things happen." Namath said he believes Ryan deserves another season to make things right, though he acknowledged the coach is in a "strange situation" with a new general manager in John Idzik and the defection of 10 coaches from his staff. As for Mark Sanchez, Namath is in the camp that believes Sanchez can redeem himself if the Jets put better weapons around him. "It's a team game and the Jets have gradually gone downhill personnel wise from year one to two and two to three and three to four," Namath said. "So Mark has to overcome some of the decisions that he's made last year. He's gonna learn from it. As long as he stays healthy, he's going to be around as long as he wants because he has the physical tools." Namath is both a Jets fan and an eternal optimist. That is a scary combination. ///// Indeed a scary combo! Thanks Joe. Jets nation loves you. In other news, Ridley doesn't remember the Pollard hit, muahaha
Well, between Hobbes, NYJunc, Joe Namath there are three people in this world that think Mark is worth saving...
what the fuck is up with the snarky first line? joe namath can go to any goddamn nfl event he pleases. hes joe fucking namath
I dont always agree with his take but Broadway Joe can speak up whenever the fuk he wants. Hes a champion.
I thought the Jets would redeem themselves this past season after the locker room collapse. How much embarrassment do you need to experience?
The jets aren't winning a Super Bowl until he dies. It was in the agreement he made when he signed his soul over to the devil in exchange for the SB win over Baltimore. All we can do now is wait.
That's cool. But you are unable to argue it when pressed. Keep throwing those names out and then running away when you get called on it. Hit and run posting is lame Still waiting...
Argue it how? The kid was green when drafted. Progressed incrementally under Schittenheimer every year, and under Sparano wound up throwing to Gates,Gilyard, and Reulamd, instead of Hill,Holmes and Keller? There's not much to argue there. Two bad OCs, and no skill players. The only logical thought is now that the Jers have a real OC, well find out what we have at QB......
"As for Mark Sanchez, Namath is in the camp that believes Sanchez can redeem himself if the Jets put better weapons around him." Has Namath been reading Junc's posts?
Get back in the right thread for starters. You can keep spamming the forum with meaningless-tidbits-of-info-that-everybody-already-knows all you want. Or you can show you are a man and debate me.
You brought it up, not me. So Namath joins Simms and Boomer, but you're right. That's not debate...that's obstinacy. I answered that question on the other thread last night before Joe put his hat in the ring.
so because they played they know? lets remember matt millen was a player before he became a general manager. didnt do much for him in evaluating talent.
