Per Manish Mehta, Jeremy Kerley is currently visiting the Jets after being released by the 9ers. Don't really care to bring him back because it doesn't make any roster sense. May take away meaningful snaps from Ardarius Stewart. Also, why are we all the sudden bringing in veteran wr's after getting rid of Decker and Marshall. I get Marshall as he asked for his release but Deck didn't. Only other thing is JK will be a fair catch guru, trying to play it safe on special teams.
The problem is the Jets WR might not just be young. They might be terrible too. Not Stewart or Hansen, but the other ones? Kerley does fit. He can return punts and kickoffs (Not well but still). Marshall is suspended for 4 games so he can fill in. Peake looks like he isn't ready yet and may never be. Anderson is fine, but not a #1. I'd sign Kerley.
I want Stewart and Hansen to get a lot of snaps each game. I think both of them are going to be very good receivers and I think one or both of them could end up being our best next season (of the returning group I mean, including Anderson). Kerley is better than Peake as a receiver and just as bad as Marshall returning punts, and he's not an idiot. Problem is, you can't just bring Kerley on and not affect the snap counts of the young guys. I'd pass.
Depending on how they utilize him, it may make sense. Like you said, for punts and returning kicks. My fear is he will primarily line up in the slot and I was looking forward to Ardarius Stewart getting a lot of time in the slot.
Bowles pretty much benched him his last year here, I don't think he wants him back. He may be an older vet, but he ain't getting Marshal or Decker money, cheap enough, but who's spot does he take on the roster?
Kerley did his best work in a WCO. I think he would be a good addition considering how inexperienced our WRs are. An inexperienced QB with all inexperienced WRs is not good imo. Should have kept Decker but at this point I'd welcome Kerley back.
i wouldn't mind it. he isn't old and if he comes cheap he's a solid slot guy with good hands and can return punts without fumbling
More interested in knowing what percent of those fair catches were inside the 10, dude was perfect at fair catching the ball at the 4 yard line.
I think you can move Peake to the practice squad with no issues. I always liked Kerley. He is only 28. If they think he can solidify specials and get open for a few third down conversions (his speciality when he was here) then I am all for it.
Hah this is funny... I always liked Kerley, but questionable bringing him back. If the young wideouts are that far behind, then yes because once Petty plays he'll need some competent players to throw to. I was pretty encouraged by Stewart and Hansen in the preseason so I'd like to see them get time this year, especially Stewart. What surprises me even more about potentially resigning Kerley is a) his getting cut after a good season in San Fran and b) he would want to come back here after being benched for no valid reason. I'd be cool with him back though The guy's career cycle is becoming, sign new contract, get cut
I won't be upset if we bring him back but I would like to see Anderson/Kearse/Stewart/Hansen get most of the playing time.
If McCown is playing, I don't want Kerley because he'll take away snaps from the younger receivers and maybe even help us win a game. OTOH if Hack or Petty are playing, it'll be good for them to have a checkdown receiver who can actually catch the ball.
I really liked Kerley but at this point, he doesn't fit in with the plan. At this point, he'd just be wasting cap money.
