Gives me an excuse to post some awesome Joe Willie photos
Happy birthday, Joe!!
Well, today is the day so......Happy Birthday Joe, one of the true heros!
Happy real Birthday, Wheelchair Joe! One of my email addresses is namath12@ blepblep.com. I've had it for well over 20 years. I can't tell you how many stupid humps never get the spelling right and don't even have any clue who Joe Namath is. Forget when I'm ordering something over the phone. "N as in nuclear war heads, A as in a-hole, M as in Mary, A as in Albert, T as in terrorist, H as in harassment 12 - the number 12, one , two @ blepblep.com. Repeat it back to me, please." "Namaste12@blepblep.com", "Mammothonetwo@blepblep.com", "JohnnyMathis12@blepblep.com. Yeah. Moral of the story, ask Customer Service to repeat your e-mail address back to you at least ten times, and they might get it right.
I treated the old man to a great birthday dinner tonight and we lifted a glass to Joe Willie. "To Joe Namath! You on the other hand . . .!" : )
Happy Birthday, pal!
You haven't lived until you've seen 'The Last Rebel'.
How about that? And guest appearances by MaineJet and all his brothers and cousins!
Nobody has ever been cooler. Stumbled in hung over for the 68 AFL title game with two women at his sside. Got knocked out DURING the game. Totally unconscious(also dislocated a finger at some point). Wakes up, back in. Two big throws to Maynard and we're off to the Orange Bowl. He didn't miss a single snap. Today Namath wouldn't have been allowed back in the game
I had the pleasure of talking to Maynard back around 1993 at a function for the 25th anniversary of our championship team. Maynard said the winning TD was gunned in so hard it knocked the wind clear out of him (if you watch the play Maynard rolls a bit slowly and has a bit of trouble getting up despite being untouched) his words were "The ball caught me, I didn't catch the ball. Namath pretty much decided to impale me with a football. You hear bout uncatchable balls that was an undroppable ball"
I really believe Don Maynard got injured on the winning td in the Championship game, he was just a decoy in the Super Bowl, maybe his ribs?
And the cheap hit that probably knocked a few years off his glory times.
I believe that DM sustained a muscle pull in the championship game. For SB3 they shot him up with I think xylocane & accordingly that is the reason JWN missed DM on that long pass attempt I think in the 2nd quarter of SB3. To me being a NYJ fan since 65 when I purchased my season tix the years from 1965 thru 1969 were by far the best years to ever be a NYJ fan. Nothing that occurred after those years ever matched the excitment of those years especially the 68 season & the SB win in 69 & then whipped the hell out of the NYGs in summer 69
Was undoubtably the coolest Dude on the face of the earth at one time.
Great pics, Fellas!
Imagine if that happened to Brady?
He would have quit football and become a full time Uggs model.
For the "young guys" that don't know about that.
Fuckin A. I was damn proud of him too.
Only Joe Willie when he's drunk tries to bed a fem for everyone to see, and risk getting attacked by her bull girlfriend...except for me
The best pix EVER in NYJ history bar none. Tks for sharing
