It wasn't pretty but remember today's rules were not in effect back then..so most of the rough stuff was allowed against the QB and BOTH sides could do it

Dah Raiders just had the worst rep

    Completely entertaining, gritty and exciting

The Jets with Namath always got the last laugh ..walking away with a W

Probably prompted Willie Joe to famously say "when you win nothing hurts!"

Considering that Joe's career record against the Raiders, including the playoff game, was 2-6-2, not so much. Even in the six years the Jets were .500 or better (1966-1969, 1972, 1974) Joe was only 2-5-1 against the Raiders. In the only game the Jets won other than the playoff game, on October 7, 1967, Namath was awful (9/28 for 166 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT), but Boozer (99 yards rushing) and the defense (4 turnovers, 210 total yards given up) were great.

And I disagree completely that other teams did what the Raiders did. The Raiders had the worst rep because they were by far the dirtiest team.

Wait so they wanted him to sell the Raiders and buy the Jets?

Hess was a horrible owner. Decent man. But a garbage owner who I wish croaked much much earlier

Or divest in the Raiders and run the Jets. Can't believe their wasn't a better offer than Woody Johnson too.

I explicitly wrote "those Raider teams" because I was replying to a post pertaining to the Rich Gannon/John Gruden-led Raiders of the early 2000s. Hence, my post had no bearing on the AFL Championship game played in December of 1968.

I thought this was fairly obvious

And, yes, I was not alive in 1968.

Yeah but they won 3 SBs being the "dirtest" team in the league.
For the dirtiest the Raiders won 3 SBs & most fans today do not realize that the AFL (chiefs & Jets) won 2 of the 4 SBs played vs the NFL which according to most proved that the AFL was equal to the NFL. After SB4 the AFC & NFC era began :)
