The most urgent issue with the OL is cutting or demoting WES JOHNSON. He was by far and away the very weakest link along the OL. He got blown up routinely. We probably would have been better going with a decrepit, old Nick Mangold than having Johnson in the starting lineup. Getting rid of him is the definition of addition by subtraction..........
Let's not forget that getting rid of carpenter would be based on us signing a free agent or drafting his replacement. If we don't sign a replacement then I would keep carpenter, but I would rather throw his $ at a replacement free agent.
I like Quenton Nelson out of Notre Dame if we don’t end up drafting a QB and Barkely is gone by 6. He is considered a top 3 pick and his only crime is that he plays guard. We need players like him if we’re going to return to a run first offense that’s Bowles wants to do. We’ve also tried and failed to groom later picks into starters. I would hold onto carpenter until after the draft.
If Macc pulled that off, it would be amazing. I won't discount it because he was able to move Richardson even with a big cap hit and discipline issues, when everyone said we'd get next to nothing for him but got a #2 PLUS Kearse. Wilkerson will likely be much harder to move, however, because he's had 2 bad years in a row now and also has discipline issues. I'd be really impressed if he did.
Ok using that philosophy when has Macc made the most of extra picks let alone the 1st and 2nd round picks. Has Leggett played yet? How bout Stewart? What kind of impact did they have last year. He traded back last year for injured players that might not play at all.
Imagine if you gave some of these players more than one season? Or didn't call an injured player a bust and the GMs fault? Lots of logic there
I guess you'll be making threads every year until it happens ... what is this year 3 you guys are still trying to make "Fire Todd Bowles" threads. Bowles be like:
If they let go of Carpenter, they at least need to wait until after the draft. I’m very nervous about the o-line and letting go of our best lineman could be really risky. Also, we need to sell to Cousins that this is the place for him. Letting go of Carpenter would not help that cause.
Sweet, let's see if Bowles will win with shitty QBs! Save him? Shit someone needs to save Mac, maybe Cousins will because Mac has had a bad eye for QBs.
Agreed. Carpenter can be upgraded, but it must be done wisely. I'm also fine with him returning as long as the center position gets a big upgrade. However, if they want to make a run at Andrew Norwell, they can go right ahead and cut Carpenter
I don't see us releasing him. His play might have dropped off this year but he's still serviceable and it's not like the Jets are in cap hell. The Jets need a tackle and center, I don't see them making another hole for the sake of saving 4.7M in a year where we have 80M.
Now that’s a winner. Gotta sleep on your decision. NOT. Come on he’s getting cut n someone will give him 2 million with incentives.
If we can get a better guard in free agency I could see us dumping Carpenter to free up money to pay the other guy. Otherwise even if we draft a guard we should wait until camp to be sure he is expendable.
Jets pick up option for Josh Martin and Steve Mclenden. Good move, both are solid players at a cheap price. Martin is especially good on special teams.
