Jets have high intrestest in FA LT.. and some other notes http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/64522.htm
To be honest i know very little of schaffer can someone post his career stats.. But a left tackle? I thought adrian jones was a left..jones surely cannot be a RT he is not strong enough for that position. I could be wrong.
ya, that's surprising to me, too. Though I guess Jones did play some right. Maybe they want to do the Broncos/Falcons thing of a bunch of light, athletic linemen, who knows.
Kevin Shaffer is a zone-blocking specialist, isn't he? 2 days ago I read an article about interest the Jets had in a lineman from Tennessee. Coincidence?
If we signed Shaffer, either he or Jones would likely shift to LG. Shaffer is only 25 and was a late roudn pick, he might not demad a huge contract.
Well lets see John Abe wants a long term contract -- not going to happen with the JETS. And now with the response from other teams it seems like Mangini has made the right move again by not signing him. Now we know we might not get the low first round for him and Houston wants no part of him so Im thinking a high 2nd and a 3rd or 4th. But he has to go and again a good job on our side for the hindsight not to be pressured or pulling the triger on a long term deal. Maybe we learned a lesson from Chad after all. GO JETS
With the market glut of players being released this year, his value will likely go down. We could very easily find ourselves holding the $8.33M egg on this one with a guy that will whine the whole year about it.
At this point would signing him to a multi year deal make sense to lower that cap number, then shop him?
I like the idea of bringing in Shaffer to play LT and moving jones to LG...sounds like a cheap, but good move.
Shaffer plays in a zone blocking scheme in doors half the season. I don't like him playing with our team in Giants Stadium, because our line is already soft. Unless we get someone who actually knows how to put together zone blocking schemes (i.e. Alex Gibbs) then I don't want to bring in players to run it. New England and San Diego (HC + OC) both ran man to man blocking schemes.
At least the change at GM was made. If Bradway was trying to trade Abe, we'd probably wind up getting a tackling dummy for him. Like Aaron Beasley or Terrell Buckley!
