Anyone dreaming of the Jets landing a top FA QB should stop dreaming. With the release of Fabini and Kev (and possibly Kendell) we are not a desirable location. No one without a death wish will sign here. from KFFL Jets | Team not attractive location for veteran quarterbacks Sat, 4 Mar 2006 10:24:07 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets are not an attractive location for veteran free agent quarterbacks such as San Diego Chargers QB Drew Brees, Arizona Cardinals QB Josh McCown, and Cincinnati Bengals QB Jon Kitna. One agent said, "The Jets are not attractive. They're cutting one offensive lineman after another." Another agent said, "I've talked to 20 different GMs and assistant GMs. Not one said, 'Hey, the Jets will do OK this year.' Privately they said, 'There's no way.'"
It makes sense. Who wants to be crushed on every down? Pennington doesnt mind since he will only have to play in 3 or 4 games.
Its not a surprise, and it really doesn't matter anyway. We still have Penny (for now), Bollinger, and a draft coming up with assuredly at least one QB selected somewhere along the way. That's enough for me, with a team going through rebuilding. Not to mention Kingsbury, anybody know if he's still on the roster? He was in NE before, so Mangini might keep him to help with learning the offense he will want to bring in. I haven't heard of his release yet, anyway.
Peter King reported this morning that Kitna may very well already be ready to sign with the Jets on monday.
So without a link, I went to SI to check it out myself. I read Peter King's column, and I learned more about...urinals...than I ever wanted to know. Thanks for the heads-up...I think? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/peter_king/02/28/mailbag/1.html
No Way! 0% chance that EVER happens. I hope we don't get Kitna either. No way we would draft Cutler then.
well so much for bringing in a vet to compete with chad, all this news tells me is that the jets are GOING to draft a qb now since am sure by now they got declined by all the free agent qb's. am sure hoping that chad's rehab goes smoothly cuz he's going to be our starter come next year.
More likely #1 Penny #2 Aaron Brooks (only QB that might be able to survive behind a line as bad as ours is shaping up to be) #3 Bollinger (or a mid round drafted QB like Croyle or Whitehurst)
Really? I like it. I'm not sure what I will say if he's wrong... I don't think he's fat anymore, so there goes 98% of my Peter King material.
That might be true, but it's also true that a backup QB coming here has a much better chance of getting playing time than a lot of other places.
This Year: 1. Kitna 2. Pennington 3. Brooks Bollinger Next Year: 1. Kitna 2. Brady Quinn 3. Brooks Bollinger
Who the hell are those other gm's to talk shit about us. Who do they think they are? I bet its of the NFL teams worse then us and with more cap hell.
