David Shaw is a great coach, with both college and NFL experience. He is also a great evaluator of players. Good look getting him though.

We need a coach who is super organized. And totally prepared. His team is ready on game day which means fewer penalties and missed assignments. Whose schemes aren't predictable. And who can make adjustments at half time. To me you have average talent with this group of players. This team doesn't play like they're prepared. Present Jets players I think want this and will be highly motivated something they aren't under Rex. Mangini was a coach in this mold but he had no people skills. So to me a guy like Malzahn would be s good choice. He obviously does his homework.

If we are able to pry Shaw away from Stanford I'd be ecstatic. We definitely would need to give him an offer that would blow him away though. If he's interested though, it's a no brainer in my opinion.

The key to this whole thing comes down to Woody. Is he, and his FO team, prepared to go after hot names like Shaw or Sumlin, pursue them and make them a big offer?

I sure as hell pray he is. Yet based on what I saw two years ago when they brought Idzik on board I have serious reservations about their entire selection process. I just sense this level of arrogance from Woody that as long as the money's coming in, he doesn't feel the need to pursue big names and give this team a superior product, yet rather just something that's average. This to me is the core problem with this franchise. The acceptance of mediocrity and being ok with it. Disgraceful. I just have a bad feeling about the hiring of the next regime and that decision being in Woody's hands.

I said a month ago that he would be the Jets coach next year, and I am sticking to that. He is far and away a better coach than Sumlin and Shaw combined (with less talent to boot). Team him with Mariota and you sure as hell might have something special.

Shaw is an offensive coach who currently has an atrocious offense. Can someone explain this one to me? We want to develop a QB? What QB has he developed? He's riding Harbaugh's coattails.

Don't forget about Duke's Head Coach - David Cutcliffe. He's got a very impressive resume. When's the last time you saw Duke ranked in football?

The thing is do any of those guys want to come here. Now a days some of these big college programs pay more than NFL teams. I don't see Malzahn coming here unless he has a passion for coaching in the NFL. Shaw loves Stanford. His roots are on that campus. But they don't pay what the SEC schools will. I think the Jets will take a coordinator unless a current NFL HC they like is available like a Mike Smith.

He's riding Andrew Luck's coattails mores than Harbaugh's. Were it not for Luck, the dude would not have a job right now, and everyone talks about him as though he is something special. Same with Sumlin and Johnny Football. Dude can barely beat Lousiana-Monroe without Johnny Football.

As I said, you want a legitimately great coach, get Malzahn. Otherwise, don't bother with college coaches.

I have to imagine that he would want a shot at the NFL. I think at the end of the day most college coaches do. Even Saban, who is perfect for the college game came to the NFL to try it out (same for Spurrier, etc..). Only guy who really doesn't want to come to the NFL seems to be Meyer.

As for wanting to come here, if you flash Mariota in front of him, and a chance to win, I think he is coming. Maybe he will want to try to win a National Championship (assuming he doesn't get one this year) so he stays, but if he wins one this year or thinks he has maxed out his value there, it is almost a risk-free move for him. If he's great, he is set. If not, like Saban, he will be able to get back into an elite program pretty easily.

Why is that a dream answer? I don't get the love fest with this guy. It took him forever to win a super bowl and to me, it was gifted to him. He was out coached in his first super bowl.

IF you think he'd come here and there would be major results, you're just kidding yourself.

I don't think Woody has a great reputation among prospective coaches and GMs. Last year he had problems hiring a GM. And remember Parcells and Belichick basically left after he took over the team.

so we want a offensive minded head coach with loads of experience and a winning record….

Hey I got it! Todd Bowles!

a defensive minded coach who runs a creative 3-4 defense and has only ever been an interim coach once!!!

…why is everybody looking at me like that?…

Honestly, despite our insistence on wanting something different from Rex I like the idea of hiring him. he's a local guy from NJ, he's been with the team before (VERY BRIEFLY), and he'll have a scheme thats similar enough to rex's that any momentum we want to carry with our front seven won't get lost in the shuffle.

Really, he's perfect if we want Rex's scheme without Rex's poor overall management… in theory.

Otherwise? how about joe lombardi? Once again inexperienced, but he's been with the saints as a QB coach for years, he should know something about offense.

Sacking Rex for another defensive minded coach would be retarded. Jets need someone who know quarterbacks and how to develop them (which Greg Roman doesn't, as Kaep hasn't improve at all since he became the starter).

I don't see the David Shaw hype. He's a terrible in game manager, and Kevin Hogan hasn't improved one bit under him. And I have no idea why he gets credit for developing Luck, when Harbaugh was the true master mind behind that. As for Greg Roman he's another overrated OC, who is a product of Harbaugh. Kaepernick hasn't improved since 2012, and Roman is underachieving with a very talented offense. Oh and his play calling is a hot mess.

    Coaches I wouldn't mind:

Jimbo Fisher, Joe Lombardi, Kyle Shannhan, Matt Patrica, Todd Bowels, and if Gus Bradely is fired I'd be all in on him.

If we hire some buttplug like Matt Patricia or Gud Bradley or Todd Bowles I will fuckin snap. We need to hire an offensive coach. One with documented success developing QBs.
