Clint Hurtt Now Not the new OLB Coach

    Hurtt, 38, relaces Mark Collins, who Bowles fired after the season. He will work primarily with Lorenzo Mauldin and Jordan Jenkins. The two players combined for five sacks last season. Mauldin was taken in the third round in 2015, and Jenkins in 2016.

    Here's what the Bears' media guide had to say about Hurtt:
    Last season, under Hurtt's tutelage, Lamarr Houston (8.0 sacks), Willie Young (6.5) and Pernell McPhee (6.0) were the only trio of linebackers in the NFL to have at least six sacks each and one of only five trios to accomplish the feat. Hurtt helped both Houston and Young transition from ends in a 4-3 base defense to 3-4 outside linebackers.
    In 2014, the Bears increased their sack total to 39, up from 31 a year prior to Hurtt's arrival. Thirty-five of the Bears 39 sacks (89.7 percent) came from defensive linemen in 2014 up from 21-of-31 (67.7) in 2013. That season under Hurtt's tutelage along the defensive line, Young led the team with a career-high 10 sacks after totaling just six sacks in his previous four NFL seasons with Detroit.

    Before joining the Bears' staff in 2014, Hurtt coached in the collegiate ranks for 13 years.

    He was Louisville's associate head coach, defensive line, recruiting coordinator from 2010-13. He was Miami's defensive line and recruiting coordinator from 2007 through 2009, and the defensive line coach in 2006. He coached Florida International's defensive line in 2005.

    Every year there is a significant turn around in playoff teams. Miami is in this year, Atlanta was brutal in 2015. The Jets went from 4-12 to 10-6. Every year is different. It happens every year.
