Relevance: Todd Bowles. After Bowles left... 2015: #5 in NFL 2016: #2 in NFL They were 24th under Bowles in 2014. That says something.
He'll be fired after year 3, then on to the next moron of a HC Sad woody hired Casserly and Wolf and these are the 2 jackoffs we got Bowles and Mac, only the Jets
The Dolphins defense won the game today with 4 INTs. Our defense flat out sucks. They NEVER make a big, game changing play. Whatever their ranking is, they play much, MUCH smaller.
I like Bowles and think he's doing a good job changing the culture. I pin the blame more on the players than the coaches. Can you really blame Bowles for Fitz regressing to what he's been his whole career? What about the 2016 performance of our big money guys Wilkerson, Revis, and Marshall? How about losing Eric Decker for the season?
He said doing a horrible job at changing the culture. Players speak out in whatever manner they want. Show up to team meetings late or skip them altogether. The team has horribly timed penalties that keep drives alive. He's tried to refuse playing younger players in place of aging veterans in more than one spot. His overpaid 'star' players give a half assed effort and look like they don't give a shit on the sidelines. The culture was not broken when he got here. The X's and O's were. He's done a terrible job this year. Plain and simple.
When you have mediocre QB play, it's easy to place the onus on everyone or anything the team does as it results with every loss. I still feel that this is good team with poor coaching and poor QB personnel. Bowles has to take responsibility. Funny thing is, I'm not so sure that Woody would pull the trigger on making a HC change no matter what the outcome here on out. Someone has to be the goat, inevitably.
Except we led the league in turnovers last year....Not sure wtf is going on with this defense anymore.
The Jets need to get out of the "defense wins championships" mantra, not because it's untrue, but because they never do it right. Time after time, they keep picking up defensive coaches from seemingly successful defensive teams, never taking into account that it might be less the DC and more the head coach responsible for the high level of defensive play. Herm Edwards came from Tony Dungy, Eric Mangini came from Belicheat, Rex came from John Harbaugh, and Bowles came from Bruce Ariens. Our coaches came from teams with top flight defensive talent too; with the exception of Revis during Rex's first years here, none of the coaches we had were ever given the defensive talent they needed to actually replicate the success they had at their previous teams. 2009 was the closest any of our recent coaches has ever come to creating a top defensive unit. They need to get a coach who is not an offensive or defensive guru; frankly, those coaches rarely do much of anything; if anything at all, they end up being a flash in the pan. They need a coach who 1) Does not necessarily specialize in anything but has a well rounded understanding of the entire game, and 2) someone who knows how to develop players and use every player to their best potential. That's why Belichick has been so successful: Though he came from defense, he knows the entire game, and he turn players who would otherwise be mediocre at best into impact players just by knowing how and where to play them. If we had a guy who could actually develop players, instead of a bunch of below average QBs who seem to all have the same exact problems, maybe we'd be able to find a diamond in the rough and have a worthwhile QB for a few years.
You could argue those players issues are the reason for a bad record if the team was playing well in other areas but this team is simply bad in all facets and that's coaching. There is absolutely zero empirical elements of this team that you can point to and attribute to Bowles doing a good job. Yes, we lost Decker. Belichik lost his HOF QB and went 3-1 with TWO backup QB's.
It's funny right? Todd Bowles was a good coach last year, but this year he's doing a bad job supposedly. Last year he looked good because he played an easy schedule and the team remained healthy. This year he looks dumb because the team played a gauntlet and injuries have been rampant. This is just one of those years that broke poorly. Everything that could go wrong.
You can't just look at the results without knowing how we got here. If you as a fan don't recognize how terrible the coaching has been you're not being honest with yourself.
That's a lie and you effing know it. There were plenty of games under Rex where the Jets didn't show up or were flat.
