Bruce Arians getting the band back together, Bowles to be Bucs’ defensive coordinator Posted by Michael David Smith on January 8, 2019, 7:23 PM EST Getty Images Bruce Arians’ coaching staff in Tampa Bay will look a lot like his coaching staff in Arizona. Arians has already assembled the key members of his staff, Albert Breer reports, and one of those will be Todd Bowles as defensive coordinator. Bowles, who was fired as head coach of the Jets after the 2018 season, previously served as the defensive coordinator in Arizona under Arians. Other assistants joining Arians will include Harold Goodwin as run-game coordinator and Byron Leftwich as pass-game coordinator. They too coached under Arians in Arizona. One of the advantages to moving quickly to hire a new head coach is that the new head coach can get his favored assistants before other teams snatch them up. The Buccaneers are now comfortable that they have a good staff in place.
Good for him... I never disliked him as a person just as the HC of the Jets... he & Arians go way back so again, good for him.
Agreed.. I think Todd will do well going back to his DC roots. He might be like Rex. Great DC, not so much as an HC.
Good luck, Todd Bowles. I think I've said it a minimum of 20 times at the very least, but I really liked him as a person and was sad it didn't work out. I've also said his demeanor never bothered me, because it didn't. I think he'll do well back in his comfort zone as a DC, maybe get another shot as a HC in a couple of years. Then again he may not want the pressure of that again. Sometimes people do best in their niche instead as The Big Cheese. That is in no way cut on anyone who is a cog in a wheel, and sometimes people don't mind being one. A friend of mine once got offered a high end management position. He is great at what he does. To everyone's shock, he declined. Not because he didn't have it in him, but because in his particular situation, he preferred to clock in, put in a 100%, clock out, leave the job behind, and go home. Got a raise anyway, then moved to a somewhat lateral position somewhere else two years later for big, big, moola. Still not in management.
He has a decent defense in front of him with the Bucs too. Now what he should do, is give us a 2nd for Big Cat .
Kacy Rodgers just followed. D Line coach. Happy he is healthy but also happy he is no longer a Jet coach. Best of luck gentlemen. I'll be interested to see what happens with JPP. 4-3 to 3-4.
How great would it be to watch Bowles go to the Bears and screw up that defense ? Nothing finalized in Tampa,,Bowles is not there yet
