I've told this story a few times before. One of our old tail-gate denizens wasn't a Curtis Martin fan. "He tripped into the end zone." Then Curtis Martin ripped off a 34 yard run and "tripped" into the end zone, lol. No, his yards per carry aren't stellar by any means, and some of the criticisms are valid, but why some Jets fans actually hate on him, to me, it's like spitting on your own floor. I love Curtis Martin for all the right reasons, even though he had Parcells stink on him from NE. I remember Martin's first game as Jet. Three running plays in a row from about the 5 and he didn't get in. Parcells was trying to prove a point, but Curtis Martin didn't get in because Jets. Curtis Martin hated football and transcended an awful childhood but he doesn't get nearly as much attention that he truly deserves for that. Now I know that shouldn't figure in to the HOF theoretically, but damn, what the hell is wrong with a role model? "He was a 'class act' should have nothing to do with . . ." But I guess a RB who slashed two people to death is more impressive. I'm glad Martin got in on the first ballot. He belongs there. Period.
