The only FAs I am excited about this offseason are the pass rushers (Houston, JPP, Hardy). They are all relatively young, and pairing one of them with Gregory and Richardson as I mentioned in other threads, would give us the kind of pass rush we haven't had since the 80s. Not sure I want Iupati. He's not that young, and going to require quite a bit of money for a position that doesn't require that much talent. I think I'd rather see how Aboushi and Dozier work out at the Guard spots.
NE and Denver were the FA winners this year sooo ya point is? Anyway we need to have another 2008 year where we sign multiple people on oline and defense. Faneca and Jenkins turned us around quickly that year
My ideal situation is to improve the O-line and CB situation through free agency, and focus on offense through the draft. I wouldn't also mind if we switched to a 4-3 defense.
Houston, Revis, and Iupati would be a dream, but I've never been a fan of spending big in FA. Maybe it's because we never have the cap too.
I'm with you. But I doubt Houston leaves KC. Revis will be interesting again this offseason, maybe Woody caves in after seeing how abysmal our corners were this year.
Speaking of QBs, I have a feeling the Jets are going to show interest in Cutler. It just seems very Jet like to me. He is a big name, who has had success, who we shouldn't bring in, but will, and we will proceed to watch it blow up, just like the other 2 organizations who've had him.
I have thought he showed potential. He is still young too. I'd take a shot on him. Health is obviously key there though.
Although I think it's a moot point because I don't think Dallas or Denver let's them go, I would honestly prefer Dez. Dude is a monster, a game-changer on the outside that we haven't had since Key in his prime. Not that I'm saying DT is bad by any means, because he's not. Given the choice though, I take Dez all day, every day.
If Iupati is the only "big name" we sign in FA, I wouldn't be too upset, assuming that his contract isn't outrageous. We definitely need some help in the secondary though, so some good/decent CB's and a FS would be nice too.
Why would any top player come here? The only reason Decker came here is because Denver never even made an offer to keep him. I don't think any of those FA's are going to have that problem... Between Idzik trying to get everyone at a bargain basement price, our team with no serviceable qb in site and in a complete rebuild I can't imagine us getting any top person this off-season. Hope Idzik proves me wrong though.
Exactly Guys like you were saying this last offseason and that worked out great. We are not capable of building thru the draft with the current front office in place .
I doubt the Rams would trade him ,Who else do they have on there roster to play QB?And even if they draft one in the later rounds of the draft I still see them hanging on to Bradford
You are probably right, but if there was a chance to trade for him that would be my first choice by far. A trade here for the Jetsmakes a lot of sense to me while we continue to search for our QB of the future. That of course would entail beefing up our OL with some real talent thru the draft and free agency.
One team signed: James Jones, LaMarr Woodley, Justin Tuck, Kevin Boothe, Tarell Brown, Austin Howard, Donald Penn, Carlos Rogers, Maurice Jones-Drew and Antonio Smith. It was not Denver or NE who were adding finishing touches.
he can't stay healthy at all, this is actually the second season in a row where we put him on IR ourselves lol
I wonder what happens with Greg Hardy..He can definitely be had at a fraction of what his market value would've been last year. Would be a terrible PR move but would no doubt improve this football team. There's a good chance he could still be suspended next year since he's only on the Commissioners Exempt List and still getting paid but it's a situation worth monitoring and if/when he comes available.
Based on the list you have there, to be honest, only Iupati strikes me as a sign no matter what kind of guy. Let me explain...until I know who is going to be GM/Coach of this team I won't know what types of skill players to go after. Iupati fits no matter who is the "captain" of the ship. If I bring in a Coach who intends to run a ton of Cover 2 zone defense then the last guy I'm hiring is Revis. Etc...so on and so forth. This list is pre-mature until we have some definitive leadership answers. It is fun to speculate though, I guess. The one thing it does do is put a spotlight on what we already know as far as QB goes...there is absolutely NOTHING to get excited about...whatsoever. This has got to be the stinkiest lot of FA QB's in a while. Even worse than normal. I love all the Sam Bradford talk...I mean...it's not like St. Louis is starting Tom Brady...there's a REASON they would let him walk...and it's not like they have some savior on their roster either...and they draft a hell of a lot further down the draft ladder than we do. To be honest I would be SHOCKED if Fisher lets him go. Cutler showed, just last night, why I don't want him in Green and White....and there is NO guarantee he is going to be gone either. Nope...we all better get used to the fact that we could be looking at the exact same QB crew we have this year...next year...ESPECIALLY if Idzik stays...he's not going to want to toss in the towel on Smith just yet.
