I'm tired of this Zach Wilson struggling in Training Camp talk. Not only has this kid yet to throw a single preseason football but he's going up against a Saleh led Defense. And what would it look like if our Defense was in the business of getting punked by some inexperienced Rookie QB who's yet to throw a preseason pass? I'll start it off with these 4 (all NFL quotes). • "Trevor Lawrence is Struggling in Jacksonville Jaguars Camp" (5 days ago). • "Mac Jones Has A Very Rough Day In Patriots' First Padded Practice". • "Joe Burrow struggles highlight the importance of solid pass protection" (today). But this one is my favorite one. Last year. Because it was written about a kid who later went on to produce the greatest Rookie QB season of All-Time... • Chargers QB Justin Herbert faces struggles against first-team defense". "The only way for a rookie to get acclimated to the speed to the NFL is to experience what it will be like come game day. That’s how it was for quarterback Justin Herbert, who was tasked with going up against the Chargers’ first-team defense on Friday. Last couple days, he’s struggled a little bit,” coach Anthony Lynn said before the workout. There’s a lot going on with protections and when you start doing more third downs. There’s more volume in the offense right now. I think this is going to help him take the next step. It’s good for him to be uncomfortable. As long as he’s uncomfortable and we don’t break his spirit, I think that’s an opportunity for great growth.” Justin Herbert 2020 (rookie): 396/595 (66.6%). 4,336 passing yards. 31 TD's/10 INTs. 234 rushing yards (4.3 ypc) & 5 rushing TDs. 4,570 yards and 36 TDs (combined). QB Rating of 98.3. Kind of crazy for a kid rookie QB who struggled throughout "training camp", right?
Do you know if some the fans of the teams these young QBs played for expressed concern real time about these struggles on their respective fan boards? Or were they all more patient than us?
I don't know and I couldn't care less. Because if a rookie QB doesn't struggle throughout training camp before his first ever preseason pass? Something is seriously wrong with your Defense. Patrick Mahomes heading into his 2nd training camp of 2018 before heading into his 2018 season (2nd year player/1st year starter). Patrick Mahomes despite (2018) Training Camp struggles? 12-4 Record. 383/580 (66.0%). 5,097 Passing yards. 50 TD's/12 INTs. 272 rushing yards (4.5 ypc) & 2 rush TDs. 5,369 yards and 52 TDs (combined). QB Rating of 113.8. Looks like he learned from those "training camp mistakes" and became a better Quarterback because of it...
Based on the word count it seems you care very much. So is the opposing view that Wilson will not learn from his mistakes?
Kidding me right? That's nuts man. Two great minds really do think alike. I asked myself when I created this thread. How did Herbert look and how did Mahomes look in "training camp"? And I was praying they both struggled because this Zach Wilson training camp talk has ruined my training camp enjoyment as a fan.
I can’t help it the condescension; it’s part of the package. That aside, I’m legit trying to figure out what everyone is up in arms about. It seems that we all agree Wilson is going through a little rough patch. Are we not talk to about it? Is this like Fight Club?
In all seriousness I think the frustration, both ways, is getting thrown at the wrong people. The frustration is stemming from the extremists who feel it necessary to claim that Wilson is a bust and/or we made a mistake drafting him. At the same time, the frustration of years of shit teams is boiling over at the more optimistic group, such as myself, who think things are finally changed for the better with the new coaching staff and front office. In the end, we are all after one goal. If we can all agree that Wilson struggling right now is not a huge concern, then we are all on the same page.
I’m curious as to why one would be frustrated at someone else’s opinion. If someone is willing to go out on a limb declare Wilson a bust this early, I’d applaud their bravery/stupidity. The way I see it, it makes for a glorious receipt good or bad.
Yes. We can talk about it. But let's also acknowledge all the great QBs who's struggled throughout their 1st/2nd training camps too. Fans acting and pretending as if Zach Wilson is going to become some type of bust all because of TC struggles must not comprehend he's yet to play a single preseason game.
Why do we have to acknowledge all the great QBs that struggled in their 1st/2nd TCs? Why can’t we just talk about our guy. It makes for shorter reader friendly posts IMO. I doubt we are going to bring up other great QBs after every TD or 1st down why do it now. Also who are all those fans in here calling Zach a bust? I keep reading about them but haven’t seen them.
It's not frustration about the opinion, but rather how quickly the opinion was formed. You're probably right though, I guess frustration was the wrong word. It's more stupidity that shocks me
