These guys aren't making much of a sacrifice. Most of the time, they still get the same amount of money, but it's just spread out differently in order to keep their team under the cap for that year. It's not like they're throwing away millions of dollars just to help the team win. That rarely happens and when it does, THEN the player should be commended. Lowering their cap number this year but then having it raised in a year or two anyway shouldn't be anything we blow these guys over. Plus, sometimes they have no choice; they either have to restructure or they're gone. So lets stop this nonsense of praising every player who restructures.
Well said... Curtis martin cut his actual pay 3.7M.. that needs to be commended, but these other guys who go through "simple restructuring" (turning base salary and/or roster bonus into signing bonus) are not sacrificing at all.
And all I think we are too quick to critise players who won't re-structure. After all, they signed a contract for $x, its not like they are suddenly cheating by demanding that money.
Definitely at age 33? He probably would get signed for the vet minimum... he's staying so it's pointless to discuss this now IMHO.
Yeah but these guys should be commended because they take less money right now knowing full well that next season they could just be cut...
Usually they just accept a lot less this year but get the remaining money as a bonus so its guarenteed to them in the end anyway.
In other years you are right. Every time Vinny restructured it cost the Jets big time down the road. This year players took pay cuts.
Actually, its quite the opposite. A restructure only means that their yearly salary is being guarenteed as signing bonus, which they get immediately.
