I just saw on the ESPN.com main page of a trade between the Yankees and Rockies. It didnt say who the Yankees would give up but they would get Todd Helton and Brian Fuentes. If anyone is an ESPN insider. take a look at the article and see what else it says. As long as it doesnt include Hughes or Clippard, I would be in big favor of this deal. Helton may be declining but his glove is as good as eyecharts and Helton is still a better hitter. Fuentes would give Torre another good reliever to kill. Better us getting them then Red Sox too.
Another 16+ Million dollar player? I guess it would wash out with Abreu coming off the books. Helton is a real country boy, I don't know if he is a NY type player. Heck of a talent though.
I don't know why the Rockies would do this, granted Helton is a burden in the contract depo but they traded away his replacement in Ryan Shealy last year. I don't quite know if Joe Koshansky is ready to step up to Colorado and produce. Fuentes is as close to a sure thing as far as a closer goes. It'd be interesting to see who the Yankees gave up but shade is right, Helton might not adjust to playing in NY real well. BTW a litte tidbit about Helton, Peyton Manning was his backup at Tennessee.
I have espn insider and they pretty much said a lot of nothing. To paraphrase, they said no deal is imminent and the Yanks have expressed interest. No names or anything else were involved.
"Perdo" is the best pitcher of all time, and had won 5 of the last 7 ERA titles and finished no lower than 9th in any of those years. He was coming off a year where he won 16 games and pitched 217 innings. He then gave the Mets a VERY good first season before being injured. He should be back in August and I personally hope he comes back throwing like he did in Boston. I don't think there was anything wrong with that deal, especially when you add in the extra seats a name like his would sell. As for the trade talks, Helton said in spring training that he would only take a trade to Boston, so I don't think this will go very far.
He was just being a "troll"hmy: I in no way made any negative comments about the Yanks spending money. I just stated facts, he has a big contract.
Ugh, I am so sick of the whole "trade everything for an overpriced player to win today" thing. When is Cashman going to learn? There are better deals out there to be had, and if this is simply to prevent Boston from improving, it's a terrible move. And I like Eyechart at first. He's starting to hit now too.
They have been trying to trade Helton for years. Helton has a no trade clause though which is why he wasn't traded last year.
hmm..Helton isn't your everyday overpriced player. He has the highest career batting average of anybody playing at .334. Better deal then what? Does it say who we would give up?
I think he is in the discussion, more then Clemens deserves to be for sure. Pedro is the best in my lifetime of watching baseball. 70's through today. Off topic though.
