http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=60570&page=6 searching is incredibly difficult. especially when you search in the yankees offseason thread.
Looked for a thread, didn't see it and posted it. But since you have such a hard on for me to post it in it's own thread I appologise
I was just specifically looking for a thread with Lee in the title because I figured an offer would get it's own thread...
Lock him up. 6 years. Do it Yanks. And while you're at it, give Jeter 17.5 mil for the next 3 years at least. -X-
I have no problem with the money. Spend the money. I hope they spend that money. I want the Yankees to desperately commit over 100 million per season over the next two years to declining players with no trade value, and I'd like them to comprise the better part of their roster. -X-
IMO, sports are one of the next major bubbles to burst in the American economy. The amount of money Americans pay on sports packages, season tickets, PSL's, etc. is way out of whack with the direction of the American economy and sports packages will be the first to go the next time we tank, which is soon. The entire system sits on a precipice, and the Yankees aren't immune. Does anyone else find it slightly troubling that the Golden State Warriors, a mediocre NBA franchise with mediocre attendance numbers, sold for nearly half a billion dollars? -X-
I would support a federal bailout for the Yankees and Steinbrenner family. They're far to big to fail..
I'm not saying they'll go bankrupt, I'm just saying... -They are investing a lot of money in declining assets and are committed to more than a few long term on a financial scale that dwarfs anything ever seen. -The ability to add future salary is not infinite. The Yankees have a budget of some sort. It's asinine to think otherwise. -X-
The Yankees 2012 payroll is probably over 200 million when you figure in arbitration eligible players like Gardner and Hughes. That's before you add a 5th starter or any bench and assuming that Cervelli and Montero are the catchers. -X-
I don't know about that. As of right now, they only have $107M committed in 2012. Add $15M for Mo, $18M for Jeter, and let's say $23M for Lee, and they're only at $163M. They're not likely to resign Posada or Pettitte for big money going into 2012, and I doubt they exercise the options on Swisher, Granderson, AND Cano. Probably just two of the three. So there's some room there. (ETA: Sorry... Granderson is signed through 2012. So he wouldn't be a factor. But they might not pick up Swisher's option.) I'd say there's a very good chance that the fifth starter comes from within the system and that the Yankees will be more than happy to have Romine and Montero (not Cervelli and Montero) be the catchers. In any case, I'm sure some things will change between now and then, but it doesn't look like they're going to have a $240M payroll or anything. Yankee payroll commitments: Link
I am pretty sure they made it 7 years for Lee today, and they need to get him since Crawford is on Boston and Martin got an offer from Boston also.
