As expected. It forces Minnesota or Detroit to have to fly to NY for a game the day right after the playoff to decide the division, and it allows the Yankees to use a three man rotation and leave Joba in the pen.
sounds like Molina would catch Burnett in Games 2 and 5*. I guess DH would be between Matsui and Posada. *- if necessary
Good idea, seeing as the Tigers had to use their two best pitchers of late the past 2 days, so it will most likely be Jackson against CC in game 1 if the Tigers advance. Awesome
Always good to see that Posada is the same scab he has always been..why should anything ever change? "Jorge Posada revealed this afternoon that Jose Molina will catch A.J. Burnett in the ALDS. "I just hope we win that game," Posada said. "That's all I've got to say. It's not like I didn't see it coming." Burnett started 32 times this season and Posada was behind the plate for 16 of them, but the right-hander had more success in 11 games working with Molina." http://bases.nbcsports.com/2009/10/link-o-rama-dunn-pujols-mortensen-posada-glaus.html.php
they've announced their decision. I guess the official communication to MLB would come after the game, but they've said they're choosing it with this format either way.
Roll your eyes all you want, bub. But try telling me with a straight face that the series is going to come down to having Chad Gaudin or not.
Answer this with a straight face. Say the Yankees are up 8-1 in the eighth in game 2. Would you rather put Phil Hughes in to pitch, or let Gaudin get the outs, preserving Hughes' arm?
Okay, I will answer you with a straight face and tell you that's a false dichotomy. If the Yanks are up 8-1 in the eighth inning of Game 2, how many other pitchers have likely been used? Hmm? You really think they're going to be forced to use Hughes in the eighth inning of the ALDS because of lack of arms? Let's say Burnett went a very inefficient five innings. Okay. Well you have Coke, Robertson, Joba, Aceves, and Marte... all of whom could be used before Hughes. Aceves for the sixth and seventh. Joba for the eighth. Coke for the ninth. Of course, it's more likely that if you have a score like 8-1, it's because the pitcher has gone 6-7 strong innings, which makes your little scenario even less likely. And guess what? You still have a day off between Games 2 and 3! So even if you did for some reason want to use Hughes, he'd still be available for Game 3. How about that? Any other questions?
