Friday - Jobamania vs Chacon Saturday - Mussina vs Rodriguez Sunday - Wang vs Oswalt YANKEES Jeter SS Cano 2B Abreu RF Rodriguez 3B Matsui LF Giambi 1B Posada C Cabrera CF Chamberlain RHP Cano batting 2nd? He better turn it around immediately.
So was Joba bad? He only gave up one. (I turned it on in the 6th, so I don't know.) It's really sad that we couldn't score off Chacon. This Yankees team really isn't that good. -------------- Wow, pretty lousy balk call.
Yankees would have interest in a trade for Sabathia. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/13/s....html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin Sounds more like speculation by the writer than anything else. Still, the Yankees will most likely go after him and Teixeira in the off-season. I'd rather just sign him than trade the prospects, unless it's built around Kennedy and Melky.
Joba is improving w/ each start. he hit a few rough spots but got out of them. 1 run in 6 innings is a great job at this point. I am excited about his progress. I know Chacon isn't good but I will always appreciate what he did for us in '05, w/o Chacon & Aaron Small we don't win the divison that year and Chacon even pitched well in his lone playoff start.
the College World Series is on ESPN right now, Stanford vs Florida State Jeremy Bleich is pitching for Stanford (Yankees sandwich pick) Jack Rye is hitting cleanup for Florida State (Yankees 13th round pick)
im confused. At what point in the game where you exactly trying to make this point, because I dont recall him every having lost it last night. Just because he had only 2 Ks doesnt mean he lost it. So he walked 4 guys ( 2 intentional). He gave up one run the entire game and keep his pitch count to a reasonable number.
Bleich shut down Florida State, which is a hell of an accomplishment. As a team, they have a .350 batting average. 5 IP 5 H 0 R 2 BB 7 SO EDIT: came out for the 6th inning and gave up a lead-off HR
He was falling apart in the 4th inning. Luckily Chacon came up in a big spot and swung at the first pitch to end the inning. His breaking stuff was pretty bad all night, he had no control over it. But in the long run, a start like last night is more of a positive than a negative. Even on a night when he had less than mediocre secondary stuff, he battled and ended up only giving up one run in six innings. Says a lot about his mound character.
The 2 starts I've seen of his since being drafted, I've been really impressed. You can tell that Pettitte is his favorite player, he's like a 20 year old version of him.
So your telling me Joba was lucky to retire a pitcher? I'd have to disagree His control was not bad at all with his off speed. Joba has always been one to throw his slider and curve for balls more then strikes. Batter tend to chase them because they are so amped up anticipating his high 90's fastball. I did see Joba threw quite a few first pitch curves and sliders as the game went on, and most of them were for strikes. If you want to debate Joba throwing mostly balls with his off speed, I'm going to argue that most of them were purpose pitches. His 1st pitch offspeed strikes sort of prove that...
No, I said he was lucky that Chacon was the hitter. He didn't have any control of his put away pitches, which is partly the reason for the low number of strike outs. There were a few instances where he threw breaking pitches in the dirt with minimal break. He was also helped out by exceptional defense from Melky and Cano. But, like I said, it's a positive in the long run because he was successful with average stuff.
