Interesting read. Of course it makes you nervous. I fully understand you don't need to act like Ray Lewis on the field, as long as the fire burns inside... http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...g=jc-gholstontojets042608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Every player has questions, McFadden with this skinny legs and fumbling (and paternity issues) Ryan has an average arm and interceptions. Barry Sanders with his size, Brett Favre with his decision making. Even Jake Long has questions about his agility and footwork. Nobody in this draft has more of an upside than Gholston, he can be a true monster. I like the fact that he's a cerebral guy that won't get caught up in the distracting thug stuff that we've seen the Pacman Jones and Tank Johnsons of the world get caught up in. What I get out of this is he will be a good team player and make the proper sacrifices.
For those of you who don't know, Cass Tech is an inner-city Detroit school that does a fantastic job at getting a lot of kids on track to being successful in life. Academics is absolutely the priority there. Sure, they've produced a lot of great football players there but academics is most important there. This article basically knocks Gholston because he's introspective and not impulsive. He is the type of player than Mangini adores- I'm sure they have talked to him enough to know he has a passion for the game. His demeanor may make it look like he doesn't care. Sure, he may not do the Light's Out dance like Merriman. However, I absolutely think he has the ability to have as big an impact on a game as Merriman. He doesn't need to jump up and down and scream after every play to show me he has a passion for the game.
LOL, the only knock I never want to see about a player is the only knock this guy has. He was called a Dog to his face and there is not reaction out of Gholston??? Mangini has a lot of work with this cat, because from 90 percent of the scouts he is being called a 3rd pass rusher.............. that doesn't even show up all the time.
Gholston is going to have alot of pressure on him this upcoming season. He was drafted for one reason and one reason only...to HIT/SACK the QB. I am excited to see him play along with the other talented Defensive players we already have.
