I know all the talk is about trading up for a QB, but why not trade down a few spots and take TE Vernon Davis? We can draft one of the greatest TE prospects to ever enter the NFL and stock pile more picks for a team with so many holes. I know, I know, not another tight end, but this one is diffrent then the last I don't know 10 we drafted in the first round over the years. This guy can actually be an effective reciever, something we havn't had since Mickey, and completly change our offense, just look what Gates has done for his team. It wasn't LT who made there offense dynamic(he doesn't hurt), it was the monster in the middle of the field no one can cover.

Kind of like Johnnie Mitchell was supposed to revolutionize the position when he was drafted right?? How'd that work out??

If we trade down and draft Davis, I will become a Patriots fan.

Or atleast seriously consider becoming a Patriots fan.:) :breakdance:

Some problems with your theory. 1) Gates was not drafted in the first round. 2) LT and Gates prospered AFTER SD fixed its O-Line. 3) Even if the FO decided to trade down, I still don't think they would draft Davis. Not after re-signing Baker, trading for Jolley last year, and having a young promising TE on the team already with Dreesen.

we have like 4 TEs on our roster, and holes on defense and offense that need to be addressed

A few reasons why we should not draft a TE in the 1st round:
    1. Kyle Brady
    2. Anthony Becht
    3. Johnny Mitchell
    4. We need help at other positions
    5. We just re-signed Chris Baker
    6. Doug Jolley unfortunately is still taking up space in the Green & White

you see where i am going with this, i dont think a TE in the 1st round would be a smart move.

No matter how great Davis is, we don't need a 5th TE. Baker, Jolley, and Dreesseen are fine and an average set of NFL TEs.

Y Not give away the 4th pick overall for some peanuts and a warm beer...

We need another TE like someone needs herpies... we have 4 on the roster, 2 serviceable, and one Bradway blunder, and the other, well he hike de ball on punts...

Tight end is the most overrated position in the game. Teams that draft tight ends in the first round must have luxurious excess at other positions. You can't draft a tight end when you don't have an offensive line.

ya theres no chance of this even if we dont go qb theres no way we wont go online, TE is one of the least of our worries in my opinion, it wont matter with NO O-line or QB

We just do not have the luxury of taking him, a first round TE is a contender pick, not a pick that can help carry the load of the team

If we don't get a QB we should take a TE because that 5 yard hook is about the limit on how far Pennington can throw!

We can revolutionize the game with the first 5 TE set!
