A few new mocks...I'll give one a try. Depth and versatility on Both lines!!!!! I know alot of posters on this site want the Jets to go DE in RD1...just giving another perspective. The Jet's trading for Edwards has thrown a monkeywrench into everyone's projections for the Jet's draft in April. It's early, but if the draft was tomorrow, here's the players/postions I would target. The Jets trade out of Rd 2 into the early part of rd 3 and get a 4th rd pick. The Jets pick up another WR in FA...maybe..Mark Clayton or Demetrius Williams (the Baltimore duo connection) both are UFA or even Miles Austin, the Jets haave had an eye on him. Any of these 3 players would be a Nice #3 behind Edwards/Cotch. Both Clayton/Williams have had injury concerns, but I'm willing to bet Rex could convince one of them to sign with the Jets Rd 1) Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma..........A definite mid/late rd 1 player that has played RT and LT. Probably better suited for RT in the NFL. A nice player that would be ready very soon to step in for Woody and be an insurance policy for D'Brick. I feel strongly that a NFL team needs to have 3 strong OT's and Williams would be a nice fit. Rd 3) (top of rd 3) Boo Robinson, DT/NT, Wake........Big body (325lbs) NT that could spell KJ. Boo has played well , but is inconsistent at times and his stock drops to the top of rd 3 in this strong draft. Still a very productive player. A definite Rd 2 player any other year. Hell, Boo could swing outside occasionally to DE in some 3-4 sets. Rex could move Boo all over the line and could play in 4-3 sets as well. Rd 4) (from trade) Alex Carrington, DE, Ark St.....Sun Belt Defensive player of the year last season. A man among boys, this kid has a non-stop motor. Perfect 3-4 DE. DeMarcus Ware was a small school player. I've been talking up Carrington for quite a while. Rd 6) Chris Hall, C/OG, Texas........A center that has played all across the O-Line. A versatile O-lineman is a huge +, especially with 45 man rosters. A team leader and a great addition/depth. Rd 7) Jermone Murphy, CB, S. Florida.........6'1" 190......has excellent speed....high 4.3/low4.4....Can play in Rex's cover defense. I noticed Murphy while watching Selvie on defense. Big Hitter!!! Can return kicks too. I really like Murphy and has combine #'s may increase his stock big time. Local kid from Elizabeth, NJ. Don't be fooled by S. Florida, the Bulls have some damn good players.
I think Williams is one of the best prospects in the draft, however I dont know if if he is worth a first at this point, I know Woody sucks but we might need him for another year. Tannenbaum is a genius in that, I think, after this season cutting Woody would save us money, which is great. If Williams, Okung, Bugala, (there is another name I am blanking out on) if one of them is still on the board and woody is gone than take him. But until then I'm kind of leaning towards a DE seeing in that a few years Ellis will probably be gone and I dont want to replace two defensive ends in the same year
big fan of carrington. Also we lost a 6 or 7 for O'connell Also I would love some of that elite DL talent in the mid-late round 1 if at all possible... But i love that not one skill player is taken and the whole draft is about the lines.
I have a feeling Carrington wont be around in the 4th. It seems there always is that one small school prospect that shoots up boards and and gets drafted late 1st or early second.
Doesn't matter if we have Woody. You draft Trent Williams for the future and groom him until the time is right I like this draft mock and wouldn't mind if it turned out this way. Carrington would be a steal in the 4th.
Appreciate the comments. A few points..... Trent Williams isn't a finished product at LT, he's got beaten by some of Miami's edge rushers. Williams looks more comfortable at RT and IMO, doesn't have the quickest feet needed for the LT position in the NFL. This doesn't mean he can't develop into a serviceable LT in a pinch, but he has NFL RT written all over him. Drafting a RT in Rd 1 isn't one of my favorite options, but this Jet team has alot of pieces and a strong RT to replace Woody is a consideration. Alex Carrington is a very nice prospect, but let's realize he's a small school player and that's going to hold his stock down, especially with such a strong draft class. Small School players usually fall over their large school counterparts. Late Rd 3 to mid 4 is my projection, at least in early Oct.
Trent Williams will more than likely be a top ten pick. He'd damn well be worth it... Woody would be gone if we made that move.
Nice mock WW. Every position and player selected would be a hell of a pick for the Jets at this point. I'd like to see a similar draft in April. - Trent Williams could very well be the top tackle prospect come April. We'll see... - Boo Robinson is a beast. Mount Cody is my favorite nose tackle in 2010, but Robinson is right behind him. - Alex Carrington would be a huge pick up. Versatility is key. - Murphy and Hall would be good value in the later rounds.
I know OT's go higher than projected in rd 1, but I'd never pay top ten money for a Rt. Let's remember Williams played real well last year at RT with Loadholt at LT. Williams may still be living off that performance . If we don't go OT..... I'm looking at Wootton, or Jones in Rd 1....or trade out, as GH suggested and get Ogbo. I'm projecting Williams in the late teens to mid 20's, especially after a medicore performance at LT vs Miami. Let's see how performs the rest of the season.
Appreciate It!! I really, really like Cody, just don't think he's within reach if our season stays on track.
nice mock and all and im not bashing on you at all but what is the point of even doing mock drafts. when was the last time a draft went anywhere near like the so called "experts" say it will. to me other then maybe the first 3-5 picks the draft is a big mystery
It's a labor of love and sparks interest in this Board. It gets members talking and thinking....it's after all, a DraftBoard. No offense taken...thanks for your comments.
Why don't we have a 4th round pick to begin with? My understanding is that the Sheppard pick is based on him playing 85% of the snaps this year and the Jets picking up his $10 million option which is never going to happen.
Plus it's a shit ton of fun, especially as we get closer to April. I wouldn't mind Trent Williams because of his talent, but I'd rather go to the defensive side of the lines in the first if possible. Williams probably could be terrific for us at RT, I just like the idea of adding a top notch player to D-Line, because I'm thinking a starter would be needed as soon as next season. At the very least we could upgrade the position for 2010, whereas I'm not sure a rookie would be able to do that battling Woody at tackle. Getting Boo would be a great alternative though, because as we've seen from Rex's defenses in the past, he's not afraid of moving guys around on that D-Line. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he saw a lot of time next to Jenkins on the field. Murphy is a good late round guy too. He was one of my top ten college players from New Jersey before the year started, if anyone cares.
I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat, great job as always WW. What is going to make it even harder to project this year is the status of the CBA. Potential free agents losing unrestricted status or not is going to play a large role in who moves where and changing a lot of teams' needs.
Personally, I would like to see us trade down --- even out of the 1st round & try to pick up a couple of additional 2nd/3rd rounders. Granted, a lot happens w/guys shooting up & down draft boards between now & April. But we need an influx of 3-4 DEs and there could be guys like Corey Wootton & Vince Oghobaase available in the 2nd round, while Lawrence Marsh is currently 3rd rounder. My gut says Arthur Jones & Jared Odrick looks like 1st rounder. I'm all for getting a young NT backup, but I think the GM & CS are satisfied w/the play of Sione Pouha......plus they are mixing up the fronts & its not a 100% full game 3-4 D anyway. We might might might be able to get away with 1 more draft w/o a serious look at OL in the draft, but thats it. 2011 would have to be OL, OL, OL.
Trading down also saves us some $$ that we can use for the guys whose contracts are coming up --- D'Brick, Mangold, Washington, D. Harris.
I would like to know what you guys think of Jordan Shipley from Texas. Obviously WR isn't a top priority anymore with the Braylon trade, but he would be a great slot receiver in the mold of Wes Welker, giving us a huge 3 receiver set. Where do you project him to go? Guys like Gilyard, Decker, Tate or Mike Williams all seem to be rated higher at this point, so he could be available in middle to later rounds, where he would be a steal for us.
