First, let me say my mock is different than most......I'm tired of Woodley & Leonard being in almost everyone's mock, I had to show a different perspective. Not that I don't like Woodley or Leonard, just showing other options. Most of you know, I'm a draftnik and love the entire process, can't wait till April. Rd 1 ........Justin Blalock OG/T Texas..................I know most will say we don't need another O-Lineman in Rd 1. Justin would fit the bill nicely to make our line a "FORCE" for many years. Moore and Clement are just average at best. Justin can play guard and RT. IMO, our running game needs a major upgrade, it's the weakest link on the Jets'. We have to get better in the rungame..end of story. Adrian Jones...see ya later...the Penguin sets an example. Rd 2a.......Kenny Irons RB Auburn....................Kenny has had some nagging injuries, but has played thru them. A tough runner who is shifty. Some have Kenny in late Rd1.....he may fall to very early Rd 2. Rd 2B......Dan Bazuin DE CMU...................I love this kid, living in the Midwest I've seen him play he dominates. MAC Defensive player of the year, 3.5 GPA, great character, co-captain......sounds like Manginio's type of player. Kimo needs a kick in the arse. Rd 3........Dallas Baker WR Florida.................IMO, WR is a need, Dwight isn't the answer and J-Mac is average, if Coles or Cotch got hurt, we would be screwed. Baker falls to Rd 3, because he's a 4.5-4.6 player, but believe me he can make plays and has nice size (6' 3"). Rd 5.......Mkristo Bruce DE/OLB Wash ST............A very productive player, that recks havoc in the opponent's backfield. Can drop into coverage too! Ask Pac-ten Offensive co-ordinators about Bruce. A Great player that hardly no-one talks about. Even with the Bryan Thomas resigning, another DE/OLB is needed. Rd 6......Tyler Palko QB Pitt........................ I want Ramsey gone, move Kellen to #2 QB. Palko is fiery and tough, can be inconsistent (Dumb throws) but has potential. Looks like a NFL QB.
You could be right! But, Palko does have some question marks........He sometimes makes real dumb decisions and forces the ball into double and triple coverage. He is a very excitable person and occasionally his temper hurts him more than it helps him. Palko sometimes looks like the best QB in the nation, it will be interesting where he goes, I still believe he's a Day 2 QB.
I would not mind drafting a hulking RT to play the opposite side of the line accross DaBrick, the three of them would anchor the line for years.
Most project Levi Brown to be a mid to late first rd pick, I'm not as optimistic. First, Levi has only played LT for one year, switching from guard. Brown is a very good pass protector, but needs alot of work in the running game. He's still a work in progress and IMO, should be a 2nd rd pick. If we draft in the early 20's and Blalock falls to us, I'd draft him in a heartbeat. Blalock has played Tackle most of his career, but is projected to be a guard or RT in the NFL. Both Moore and Clement looked good yesterday, but that was against a weak GB D-Line...........the right side of our line needs addressed. I'm not saying we have to definitely look at O-line in rd 1, but something to consider on who's available.
Love that Dan Bazuin pick, one of the guys coming up for next year's draft that I see as 100% the type of football player that Mangini would want. Tough, consistent, leader, and a hell of a player at that. He's a phenomenal passrusher too, so he could honestly line up at DE or OLB.
My only problem with Bazuin is his first step off the ball. He's incredibly strong, but he's not that quick off the ball. I think he's an excellent value pick at that point though. Love the Blalock pick too. I don't even think we need Kenny Irons, as good as he is. We have two runningbacks that will make a very good tandem for a while in Houston/Washington. I really think an Adam Carriker type of two gap specialist would be a nice pick there, to continue to build depth within the front seven and give Mangini a variety of players to give many different looks as we all know he loves to move players around and keep everyone fresh.
Here's someone else's opinion on Kenny Irons, 3 days after my original post. http://www.footballsfuture.com/news/2006/12/kenny-irons-falling-fast.html
I couldn't agree more with the Blalock pick. That link about Irons doesn't give too much to get excited about.
I'd love that draft. Anybody who reads my posts in this forum knows that I think both Irons and Palko are gonna be great pros.
