My mocks are different than most!! I'm assuming......Carriker, J. Moss, & Blalock are gone at #25. I'm not big on any of the 1st rd corners that might be available at #25. IMO, Woodley is overrated and not worth a 1st rd selection. I like our DTs on the roster....CJ Mosley may develop into a very good player. So my first rd pick will be a surprise and the BPA. Daniel Graham TE.........only major free Agent signing Cut................Major cuts.....J Mac, Tim Dwight, Barton, Barlow (wish we that 4th rd back) & Blaylock Rd 1 Dwayne Bowe WR LSU.............I know I'm going to get some grief with this selection. My DEs are off the board & Blalock. Dwayne is a very, very fine WR with good size and has tremendous upside. I've seen a bunch of LSU games and this kid is impressive. Not very fast, but plays quick, goes after the ball, terrific blocker and an excellent complement to Coles & Cotch. We need another Playmaker at WR...Coles, Cotch, Bowe & Smith......nice group when Schott spreads the offense. One injury to Coles and Cotch were screwed. NE & San diego just behind us, want Bowe badly. Rd 2a Dan Bazuin.......DE/OLB CMU...............Flying up draftboards, great shrine game. This kid has a motor that just won't quit. Unbelieveable numbers at CMU, granted small school, but was a man among boys. He won't last to the Jet's 2b pick. IMO, projects as a OLB. Rd 2b Fred Bennett.....CB..........SC..............I like Fred, great athlete, good size 6' and potential starting CB in the near future. SC is producing some good CBs. IMO, a steal in late rd 2. Hank Poteat isn't a starter. Rd 3 Gary Russell.........RB..........Minn..........Is Mangini going to hold Gary's grades in school against him???....I hope not. Very good RB, that IMO, at times looked as good as Maroney and Barber a couple of years ago. Has a 6+ avg yd per carry and over 1100 yds in 2005. A steal in Rd 3, could have been a first rd pick if he stayed in school. The kid isn't a trouble maker and went to a CC College in 06. I live in Columbus, Ohio and saw him play at Walnut Ridge....unbelievebale H.S. player. A risk/reward pick in rd 3....I'd take the chance. Rd 5 Mkristo Bruce........DE....Wash St........Had him in my last mock, a project but has potential to be a solid player. Maybe able to stay at DE if he bulks up. (in my avatar) Rd 6 Andy Alleman.........G...........Akron...........probably the best O-lineman in the MAC. Very strong, a leader and smart.
so i take it your set with Washington and Houston as definate go to guys, and you're putting all your faith in a back that is a long shot?
I guess you haven't seen Russell play!! This kid has all the talent to be a #1 back for the Jets. The risk, ever slight, is his ability to pick-up the complex Jet offense. I'm not trying to call him an idiot, but he has had academic problems, whether from being lazy or not that bright, I don't know. His athletic ability is without question, is a late rd 1 selection if he stayed in school. Who do you suggest would be better??? Irons, Darby, Hunt.....I doubt it. Cause AP & Lynch wouldn't be available at 25.
r u kidding?! hunt is way better at 239 lbs.he's the big rb we need and he can block and he's no dumbass
I'm a big fan of Russell- hell, I'm a big fan of Barber and Maroney too. It still pains me that Maroney had to end up on the freakin Patriots... ugh. My college roommate was from Minneapolis so I became a pseudo-Gophers fan. I watched virtually every Gopher game. I'm really interested to see his 40 time. That's the one part of his game I'm a bit reticent about. I just hope the success of MBIII and Maroney has shed doubts about Minnesota running backs being purely system backs- these guys are smart, hardnosed RB. FYI, Russell had that huge 60 yarder to beat Michigan. Speaking of Minnesota, I'd take a gander at Matt Spaeth too at TE. Good blocker (I think he's a top 3 blocker at TE in this draft) and very sure hands. He's also a big target at 6'7.
I like Spaeth, He would be a nice fit in Rd 3............seems to be the most well rounded TE in 07's draft. Zach Miller is a better receiver, but needs work on blocking, same with Joe Newton, who has great hands and very Tall, but undersized. TE seems to be a down positon this year.....Daniel Graham in FA would be a huge upgrade.
