My Updated (2.0) Jet's mock draft for 2012.

With only 2 weeks gone in the NFL season, the Jets still have some needs.

My draft takes into consideration the players that will and won't be on the Jet's roster in 2012.

It's most likely LT won't be a Jet next year. I'm drafting a player late in the draft that is excellent catching the ball out of the backfield. No need to draft a RB high, the premature demise of Greene is garbage. Greene, Powell & McKnight will be a solid group.

Plaxico Burress will be a Jet next year and is a terrific red zone threat. Let's face it, if Plax didn't come up big late in Wk 1 we would have probably lost. While it's tempting to take a WR in Rd 1, I think Rex addresses the major need...a rush OLB.

Jets' get Rd 6 pick for Lowery* (edit). Lose Rd 7 pick for Caleb Schlauderaff.

Round 1 BRUCE IRVIN, DE/OLB, West Virginia......probably the best rusher playing part time last season. Incredible edge rusher that played standing up (LB). Relentless and very fast off the edge. Can drop in coverage. Seems to playing with his hand down this season. Has put on 10-15 pounds from last year and is around 248lbs. Jet fans would be chanting "Bruuuuuuuce" at MetLife. Sorry to disappont Jetfans that want a WR in Rd 1, I don't see Rex going that direction at this point, things could change depending on Plax being a Jet in 2012.

Round 2 Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU.......it's clear that the Jets have to address the O-Line next year. Hunter is very inconsistent and our depth at OT is terrible. God forbid D-Brick went down. Reynolds is huge player that has played 3 + solid seasons for BYU and dominates. A perfect NFL RT that could move to LT when needed.

Round 3 Jermaine Kearse, WR, Washington......Locker's favorite receiver. Kearse had 1900 yards and 20 Tds the last 2 years. Stats are down this year, Washington is running more with Polk. Kearse has good size, 6'2", and great hands. Would be at least a rd 2 pick if Locker was still in Washington. Solid #2 NFL WR. Has a year to develop behind Holmes and Plax.

Round 4 Korey Williams, ILB, S. Miss..........I was watching part of a S.Miss game a few weeks ago and this player was incredible. Rushing the passer, great run stopper and good in coverage. Williams caught my eye and was one of the best players on the field. 6'2' 245 LB and could be Bart's replacement in a few years. I like his size and quickness.....Team leader. Watch for a S, Miss game on TV, it's worth it to watch Korey Williams.

Round 5 Sean Baker, S, Ball State..........I get to see a few MAC games and Baker is an NFL talent. Always around the ball and is the team captain. Smart player that supports the run as well. One of the best kept secrets in College Football. It's time to add another player to the Safety position. Remember Sean Baker, some NFL team is going to get a great player with a mid round pick.

Round 6 Kaniela Tuipulotu, DE/DT, Hawaii.......A Rex player, hard working and smart. Can backup at DE. Good depth added to our solid D-line.

Round 6 Brandon Bolden, RB, Ole Miss.......Great receiver out of the backfield. Hurt his ankle and has been limited this season. Lt 's future in 2012 is uncertain.

Love the Reynolds pick, he could be a starter at RT imo, given time with Callahan I'd truly believe he can be a long time starter eventually.

I love the Bruce pick but do you think he is a sure fire first rounder? I think he might go somewhere in the second but obviously value is hard to tell right now.

I don't LOVE getting a WR in the third because I think there are so many great / better WRs put there. Are yu thinking that we go Plax again 100% or is this a scenario?

Bolden kinda reminds me a lot of James Starks, big guy who can receive out of the backfield all day.

Not exactly the flashiest draft but its very complete and thats what this team needs, great work WW.

I think if he puts up 8-10 sacks and pairs it with what I assume will be a good combine performance, he'll shoot up the draft board. He has Dontay Moch speed, but is a far superior player when it comes to football, even if this is his 3rd or 4th year playing defense(former WR). He'll get labeled a speed rusher, but he has some good power too. I saw him drive the Rutgers' LT into the QB last year during a game. That Tackle may not be a great player, but no one should be manhandled like that in "big boy football".

I want to see what he does this week against LSU's enormous Tackles, Chris Faulk and Alex Hurst...

I really believe Irvin has the skillset to be a Rd 1 selection. Irvin looks unblockable, his speed/quickness is incredible. Some have compared Irvin to Von Miller.

This year will be the determing factor if Irvin can be just as productive as 2010's season, since WV has him playing with his hand down for many plays. Like I mentioned, he gained 10-15 pounds and has been working on his strenght and conditioning.

I know this is obviously pure speculation but I think predicting what we do in the draft this year will be harder than any other.

This years free agency is going to be crazier than any other in league history. I forgot what the number was but so many deals that were signed this year were one year deals. The amount of free agents that hit the market is going to drastically change who we target.

That being said good job as always on the predictions, I know it takes alot of time to do this.

That being said, I think if we go OL in the draft it will be later in the draft due to us picking up a tackle in Free Agency

    Nice work as usual.

I really like the first three picks. Especially Irvin and Kearse.

I'm not sure if we should add another ILB with Mauga and Bellore already on the roster.

Joe McKnight is a favorite of mine - I see great potential in him, so Bolden wouldn't necessarily be a bad pick, but I'd rather see the team go in another direction: maybe another wideout or a big tight end.

I haven't seen much of Sean Baker - I'll keep an eye out for him next time Ball State plays on TV. I definitely agree that it's time to add another player at that position.

Do you think our defensive line needs more depth? For the first time in what feels like forever, we actually have an excellent four-to-five man rotation that is built of mostly younger guys. Wilkerson, DeVito, Pitoitua, and Dixon is a heck of a rotation. Kenrick Ellis will also see time at end.

*...just a small nitpick: I think you meant Dwight Lowery instead of Jerricho Cotchery.

    Yep, Brain fart.

I'm not sold, as for now, that Mauga or Bellore is the long term solution at ILB. After Rd 3 I'm all for bringing in good football players to add depth at any position. McElroy was a great example, I never thought we would draft a QB last April. I really like Williams and could see him as a starter in the NFL.

I'm certain that would be a priority.

Pouha doesn't seem like a guy that would try to take advantage of his situation. Let's remember Pouha isn't a young man, he's over 30+.

Do you think that one WR would be enough? After Plax and Mason we really have no options at wide receiver, imo.

    Don't forget about Kerley.

    Mason will be gone.

2012.......Holmes, Plax, Kerley, Kearse & maybe Scotty boy.

We can use Keller in the slot.

To return kicks, I'd love Hilton.

Hilton's stock is on the rise.

You don't think he could be a slot WR? There's no way in hell a linebacker is covering TY Hilton.

I feel like the Jets may draft multiple receivers in 2012. ...maybe sign a free agent wideout and draft someone. I don't know.

Even if Burress is re-signed, we'll still just have very little depth:

    LOCKS

    Santonio Holmes
    Plaxico Burress
    Jeremy Kerley

    QUESTION MARKS

    Patrick Turner
    Scotty McKnight

If this team has a chance to upgrade at the position, they should do it.

Burress will be 35 years old next season. In my opinion, he'll take a backseat to a younger player like LT was supposed to do this season.

I understand that Dustin Keller has become much more a factor in the passing game, but we still need depth at WR.

It's possible we could draft 2 WRs there's alot of solid talent.

A lot of WR talent that is available later:

    Dwight Jones
    Jermaine Kearse
    Chris Owusu
    Marquis Maze
    Ty Hilton
    Nick Toon
    BJ Cunningham
    Rishard Matthews

    ...just to name a few.

I really like Kearse in round 3. One good thing about this draft is that there will be plenty of WR depth in the 3-5 rounds as WW pointed out. It hopefully allows us to focus on getting that edge rusher in the 1st.

Instead of drafting another D-lineman or RB in the late rounds I would rather add another O-lineman. I trust none of our back ups and Wayne Hunter has been atrocious so far, who knows how Turner comes back from injury, and Vlad is still a work in process. The more bodies we can get the better and I really think we should come away with 2 o-lineman in this draft considering we don't have too many glaring needs.
