I got a question for you. I know you are super plugged in with the draft, so I was wondering which team you think has done the best job of drafting in the last few years? I ask this because I was looking up potential GM's for the Jets, and I came across this guy Scott Fitterer who is running the college scouting for Seattle, and I am fixated on this guy as the next Jets GM. Do you know anything about him? Would he be a good fit? Anyway, I know that you know what you are talking about when it comes to drafting, so which team has done the best job drafting the past few years and which college scouting directors do you think deserve GM jobs the most?
Packers, 49ers, Giants, Texans, Seahawks look for teams whose top 2 picks haven't been busts and the rest of their picks have solid backups or are still on the team, if the team is young too is a good indicator (if they are good on that side of the ball)
I mean I could offer my opinion on the situation, like a thread warrants, but I believe he's only looking for WWs opinion on this GM candidate.
I thought he fucked up trying to PM as well. That or he is basicly saying the rest of the draft forums opinions count for shit. I would prefer to think its the former.
Well, you are wrong. Neither is true. If I just wanted his opinion, I would send him a PM. However, I want his opinion and other's opinions, so I made it a thread that others can see. Yes, I value his opinion more than most of the members of this message board, but that shouldn't be taken as an insult at all. He doesn't comment on every single thread. I didn't know if he would comment if I just made it as a general thread addressing nobody in particular, so I made it a thread and addressed it to him as well, so I can get his opinion and other's opinions. Geez man, give me some credit rather than assuming that I am some idiot that doesn't know how to send a PM.
I did not say you did not know how, jsut that perhaps you screwed up. God knows I've sent things to the wrong people or posted to the wrong forum before. It happens.
I'm not WW85 but maybe I can answer it the way WW85 can only answer it... Sanchize0829, Yes I am somewhat familiar with Scott Fitterer however I don't think he's fully quite ready for such a prominent and demanding job like the Jets GM position. He is the Seahawks West Coast draft evaulator so he isn't even a top dog at that spot. However, to give Fitterer credit he did provide Seattle the following big players for them hailing from the west coast 2009: C/G Max Unger(Oregon) 2010: OT Russell Okung(Okla St, he was mediocre for SEA and plagued with injuries until this year where he's built himself into a nice little LT) 2011: CB Richard Sherman(Stanford) WR Doug Baldwin(Undrafted, Stanford) 2012: OLB Bobby Wagner(Utah State), RB Robert Turbin(Utah State) A lot of real gambles and risks here but much of it has paid off from Fitterer's end. I don't want to get too nuts about him though, he was responsible for just one side/area of finding talent....can he really make such a Quantum Leap to being a hands on GM of one of the toughest GM jobs in the league? I don't know.... Here are some names of guys from teams who would be guys to grab GM spots this offseason: Marc Ross(Responsible for being apart of drafting Nicks/JPP and some other key additions for the Giants) Mike Maccagnan(Made picks of Cushing/Watt/Reed, responsible for quite a bit of the Texans drafting.....has been money the past 3 or so seasons but before that its been hit and miss. He's been discussed in a thread up above in the Jets forum) Tom Gamble(Runs the player personnel decisions in San Fran....I actually like Gamble the most of all 3 guys listed here. You cannot question the talent drafting the 49ers have done, its just they needed a coach to take that potential and make it come up....which Harbaugh has done.) If I had to rank it: Gamble Ross Maccagnan
Thank You. That was very insightful. I was under the impression that Fitterer was the director of College Scouting for the Seahawks, according to Wikiepdia. I got that from Wikipedia though, so I am sure you are correct.
Unless this wasn't updated.... http://www.seahawks.com/team/staff/Scott-Fitterer/eb20feac-e147-4bcf-a84c-528e89fdfa4e He does have the title I mean but I think he just scours through the Western part himself and with scouts.....so I don't know if I can give him the full credit for guys outside of the West Coast.
Well, whoever is making draft decisions with GM John Schneider is doing something right. Whether thats Fitterer or someone else, that person probably deserves accolades for how well Seattle has built through the draft.
I think Carroll deserves credit too....he probably learned how to evaluate college talent after his days in USC and what to look for. Dodged a former player of his in Taylor Mays for Earl Thomas....right choice easily.
