W. Wright, LB M. Murrell and DT H. Green all had their contracts expire, were not tendered by the Jets, and will become FAs at midnight. via Jets twitter
I'm surprised they didn't re-sign Wright. I wouldn't be surprised if someone scoops him up fairly quickly.
While Wallace Wright is an extremely valuable special teams play, he isn't worth that much money. There's really no reason to tender him. I bet he'll be back with the Jets.
If Wright goes, that will make me 2 for 2 in guys in my Rent-A-Jet signature block not being on the team the next season.
I think special teams is more reliant upon good coaching. Just takes a good athlete and some guy telling him where to run. Over simplified but basically true.
Dear Namath: I respectfully request that do not do signature blocks for any of the starters or other key back-up positions. Thanking you in advance your cooperation. Rex Ryan......
OK, do not paraphrase Ryans request. This what he actually wrote: Hey Fucker!! Dont put a fucking Jet in you stupid lil signature shit. I see u do that one more time and I will fucking take care of you just like I did with that Channing fucker. Yo Daddy! ...(shows the middle finger)...
As an Appalachian State transfer and UNC-CH grad...from Fayetteville, NC---I am saddened by the decision to not keep Murrell and Wright But seriously though...everyone likes an underdog---but neither could grow from special teams to starting rolls. Gives Ryan more space to add UDFA's he can try to turn into starters and more than a special teams ace. If they don't see a market, they can always come back and compete to try and make the roster again.
It was quite a coincidence we allowed 2 KRs for Tds when guys like Murrell were inactive for the Miami game. When you have good STers you hold onto them, they don't cost much and STs are a HUGE part of the game.
