Ok...Draft is in the books....Let's move on....First, I like what they did in the draft. Anyone who can't see that needs to put better glasses on. I do NOT know what all you are griping about....missed opportunities to pick up a playmaker?? What the hell.

Mangold is in the mold of Mawae...if he even pulls half as well as Mawae and can spring Curtis or Cedric...THAT is a playmaker! Needless to say the fact, I can't remember how many fumbles were caused due to Center/QB exchange. THAT is a playmaker. A LT that can protect a blindside so your not down to your 4th QB IS a playmaker....jesus...you don't have to TOUCH the ball to be a playmaker...that's why Football is the most complete Team sport in all of sports!!! I swear to god some of you need to go play flag football or something. What, the Jets are devoid of playmakers?? Seems to think when they suit it up this season there will be 53 to exact.

Now, personally, I like Coles....I think Cotchery is going to go off this year...I also think Cedric Houston is more than capable....he will spell Curtis and do a good job...Askew too! If some of you were too drunk to remember I remember a game where Askew looked damned good! I keep reading how the Jets had all those holes to fill but if you go one year further back we were a playoff team...oh yeah....alot of holes....the only real holes I saw this offseason were OL and DE.

Well...hullllooooo...we just drafted the 2 top O-lineman at their position in this draft and personally I think Bryan Thomas and Ellis will fit in just fine....there's NOTHING wrong with our LB'ers and our secondary will be a year older and I expect Miller or Straight to compete for the 2nd corner position....Barrett is fine....I sure as hell don't know what you were expecting...

Take Leinart...yeah....then we would be watching him wave a towel from the sidelines after getting his ass kicked behind a crap line...Mark my words...if Pennington can return to his old self or Ramsey actually plays like the 1st rounder he was....the Jets will contend...and that has nothing to do with having green glasses on....that's fact and reality. No one in the East separated themselves on a huge scale this offseason except maybe for the Dolphins....and we'll see how that works out.

    Peace

I think we did good. But IMO we shouldve addressed RT and OLB. Our biggest needs coming in, and still have not touched them. I assume the FO thinks Thomas and Hobson can start at OLB, but I wouldve liked a little assurance. As for RT, Ive never been comfortable with Jones mannng the spot. Ah well, theres always next years draft

Good Points....but remember...Jones was/is still learning the position...he will get better...also, as a unit they are better...that will affect every lineman. I think Hobson is more than capable...I wonder how it is that he has come under fire...he really wasn't that bad. You have to remember, as a defensive unit, they were on the field soo much last year because of the O it is hard to say how much better they can become...

Fair enough...but we havent seen much of Hobson as a blitzer to suggest that hell succeed in our scheme to pressure the QB. Hopefully he does. But I am less worried about OLB than I am RT. Jones is about 40 lbs underweight by current NFL standards for a RT, and while I usually am not a man of numbers, I think itll be a problem for him to anchor in the run game. While its possible Hobson does well, I dont see any such hope for Jones unfortunately

Draft was ok... 1st round was x-cellent. I was waiting for Jets' to draft a big gourd. Drafting Max Giles at Guard instead of Smith....would have made me feel alot better. Jets' need to build a dominant side of line. Whether is the left side or the right side. Brick & next to him {Kendall}....YIKES!!!! Maybe they can pick up a salary casualty come June 1, or an unrestricted free-agent. I love how the Eagles continually draft a big O-lineman every year. I was also looking for Gabe Watson or another huge DT for NT position.
Those 2 positions.... a huge Guard & DT needed to make Jets' real contenders, instead of pretenders. Will stay tuned & monitor the developments.

I like the way the Jets worked the draft, but I'm still not very optimistic about next year. As long as they show improvement throughout the season, I don't even care if they end up winless. The team gets a free pass next season, since they are rebuilding under a new management.

I like Cotchery too, but mainly because I wouldn't mind anyone replacing McCareins. Hell, they could even bring back Matt Hatchette (okay, maybe that's going too far). Coles and Cotchery with McCareins or newly acquired Tim Dwight at the slot position would be a decent, mediocre group, IMO. I don't expect much out of Brad Smith, since making the transition from QB to WR in your rookie year probably isn't the easiest thing to do...

The defense, IMO, still needs alot of work. NT is a pretty critical position in the 3-4, I would think. I don't know who will be filled in at that position. Kimo von Oelhoffen is a natural 3-4 DE, but he has played NT before. He seems to be the most capable. I don't really think DeWayne Robertson has a spot on this team anymore. He's not really a NT, and I don't know how he'll play as a 3-4 DE. Of course, if the team switches between 4-3 and 3-4 alot, this may not be a problem at all.

    Good post mezzavo.
As jetsaholic1094 just wrote I don't think it will be a good season in terms of wins , but I think we will see flashes of good things to come. The job is going to take Mangini and Co at least 3 years to fix IMHO.
If Hobson IS going to be the outside threat , expect him to see plenty of action his side , whilst I like him in the 43 I have concerns about him in the 34.
The draft was a good one and grade wise I would have to say at least a B+ to A.
