Get ready for a little Brad Smith action Brad Smith, the former Missouri quarterback in his third year as a New York Jets slash wide receiver/running back/quarterback, got off to a slow start this season, but he's starting to make a little impact now.In last week's overtime loss at Oakland, Smith made his first start of the season at wide receiver when the Jets opened in a four-wide formation.(It must be nice having four wideouts worth starting.) Smith caught a 4-yard pass on the opening drive and totaled 88 yards from scrimmage. He gained 59 yards on four rushing attempts and 29 yards on four receptions. His 36-yard rush in the fourth quarter was the longest run from scrimmage by the Jets this year. Brad Smith is the man, probably my favorite jet. He might not have the greatest skills but the kid sure tries and has heart. I have no problem with them getting him more involved.
when smith gets a big time role at wr you see the production drop. He should only be used for 1 or 2 gimmick plays a game
Just what we need... more trick plays pulled from last year's grab bag. O-line can't block? No problem. Dazzle 'em with smoke and mirrors.
Huh? He finally got a decent amount of action and did pretty well. He's looked like a real receiver this season for the first time in his career. Yes he did, but he looks a lot better this year. He's progressed quite well in year 3.
rushing yards- Washington 88 Smith 87 I know, I know, I know different types of plays, but still, I'm just sayin' I have a strong feeling that when Smith leaves the Jets, some other team will utilize him very well. Smith had a very similar college career to Antwaan Randle El. Randle El is 19 of 23 passing for his career in the regular season. Also, we all saw what he did in the Super Bowl with his arm. Smith does not have a strong NFL caliber arm, but, c'mon already, let's see him throw a few passes. This is ridiculous. The coaching staff is being dopey with this player.
B. Smith has the athletic ability of a top ten WR, I hope they can teach him the position. Randle El was an option QB in college and in his third year he has 43 catches for 601 yards and 3 TDs. B. Smith is 4'' taller than Randle El and just as athletic, he should be doing as well or better by now.
I think Smith could really be a good receiver if they used him more, then it would be a lot easier to incorporate him in trick plays as well. I think it was during the preseason where he made that sick one handed catch. If he's capable of doing that then I think he's capable of being a real receiver instead of the receiver he was last year.
Smith is a perfect wild cat QB. Put him at QB, put Leon and TJ in the backfield and run the triple option. Why not? Smith dropped so many passes at the end of last year, but he's still young and learning. Hopefully last week was a jump-off point.
During his 1st year and often during the 2nd, when he came in you could lay big odds that it would be an end-arround. Never got much chance to do anything else. Poor coaching stays with us all the time!
