Wow, Kris Jenkins was a steal. Better than Haynesworth?

I say that Jenkins is better than Haynesworth as an overall defensive tackle, but that is clearly something you could debate. During their one on one game, when their teams played each other, Jenkins shined the entire game while Haynesworth was invisible and even got hurt I believe.

The #1 reason why Jenkins was a steal and overall better than Haynesworth:

    THEIR CONTRACTS!!! Look at this:
After we traded for Jenkins we gave him a 5 year $30.25 million contract.
Yesterday Haynesworth got a 7 year $100 million contract. Thats crazy!

After last year, I thought the Jenkins deal was amazing, now I can see Tannenbaum pulled off pure brilliance.

You can debate who the better defensive tackle is, but Jenkins obviously has the greatest value. My only issue is, when Jenkins sees that contract, will he demand more money?

Great point. Personally I think Haynesworth is better, but definately not $70 million better. We got great value with the Jenkins deal.

Haynesworth as the NT? I don't think so. I think Jenkins is better at 3-4 nose.

For the money, KJ is better buy. But with money equal, gotta go with Haynesworth. Yes, he got injured in our game but he kept on playing. KJ is more injury prone and seemed to lose a lot the last several games. We need a DE worth a damn next to him.

It would behoove the Jets to get a quality backup in here to give Jenkins some air occasionally so he's not burnt out by the end of November. The team proved every time he wasn't on the field just how valuable he is to this franchise right now.

I agree. That is a need for the Jets right now. I also agree that he was burnt out at the end of November, but people also began to pass on the Jets non stop as well so he was not used as much.

Ahh, not a better move, but I definitely agree, it should be a priority. Something they have to willing to invest cap space in. No WRs and no QBs. No more big splashes and it could be done.

Back to Jenkins vs. Haynesworth, there is no doubt Jenkins is possibly 100 times more valuable to the Jets than Haynesworth is to the Redskins or will be. Without Jenkins last year, the Jets defense would have been horrible. Without Haynesworth, the Redskins defense was still really good.

Lets all hope that by week 4 jenkins is not bitching about being under paid and sulking on the side lines that his contract needs to be reworked.

Every year the contracts get bigger and everyone says player X was overpaid. Next season there will probably be some DT getting a $110 million contract and people will say Haynesworth was a bargain.

Going by contracts though, Kris Jenkins was more than just a bargain.

I would consider this my favorite picture of the New York Jets 2008 Season:

That's debatable.. Haynesworth has only played one full season, he misses quite a few snaps and gets helped off the field at least as often as Jenkins. Haynesworth also had a much better supporting cast in Tennessee. Right now I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but I think time will tell soon enough which is better. Jenkins is without question a better deal though.

The haynesworth contract is actually more like $48 million over 4 years. The fifth year requires them to pay him $30 million. It'll never get that far.

Still getting paid more than jenkins, but haynesworth had a huge year, so i'm not surprised the redskins overpaid for him.

I would put them on the same level, but jenkins is the better deal.

I'd have to agree with the general theme of this thread. Monetarily speaking, it was a steal. The problem with Haynesworth is that some people question his motivation. He was considered by many to be a flop before the previous 2 seasons, both of which were contract seasons. There are people who think he just played hard to get a great deal, which clearly worked, but will slack off now that he got the money.

Look at his career stats, pretty hard to argue that he didn't excel when money was on the line.
