The guy is around 6'4, 265, and runs a 4.3 :eek:hmy: Plus then theres the little matter of his 42'' vertical leap :eek:hmy: May not appear to be a major need, but upon further investigation, you will see that Chris Baker is a FA (and is not getting resigned), and Jolle is a scrub that cant catch OR block (Davis can do both, and well). Im not saying we should take him at #4, if we take him we would have to trade down. But hes the type of prospect that dosent come around very often. Hes the Reggie Bush of tight ends. I say we take him. We can fill our other holes with our other picks, including the compensation picks, the pick wed get from trading down, and the pick well get for Abraham.

Wow if we took a TE before filling the rest of our needs, especially QB, I will freak out.

Chris Baker would have had a great season last year, but got hurt. Davis has impressive numbers, but we have too many other needs.

IMO we will not act on QB this year unless we let go of Chad. Since it looks like hes staying I dont think well address the position with anything but a 2nd day pick and/or a veteran. Not saying I agree. But if Chad dosent agree and we cut him than I am all for drafting Cutler. But IMO that will not happen

IMO if Cutler is available which at this point I'm not so sure about but if he is available he will be a Jet regardless of what happens with Penny.. Now if by some miracle we were able to get Detroits first rounder for Abe, highly unlikely but if we did than maybe I would consider Davis after already addressing the QB position.

I love the guy, but a rebuilding team, which we are, does not take a luxury pick like this. We need to resign Baker. He's got all the tools to be a 2nd tier TE, which most teams are lucky to have.

Agreed, we would not even be able to get the ball to Davis if we got him.

If we traded down and get another first round pick I would think about it.

  10. My thing is this:

If we trade Abe for a #1, giving us 2 first rounders, we should go BPA at both spots, w/ one spot going toward an offensive skill position. If the BPA at the spot we decide to go skill at happens to be Vernon Davis(definite possibility) that isn't a terrible move.

We have an OC who came from a system that flourished w/ a TE named Antonio Gates. He gave that offense all sorts of options. Davis is a guy w/ the potential to, believe it or not, be even better than Gates. Why? B/c he's faster and is a better blocker.

That wouldnt exactly be a horrid pick to make.

Yes I would draft Davis... he looks like a total beast.

I would love to say yes, but not at 4 with our other needs. This guy is a beast though

We might take Davis because the TE is an essential piece of the puzzle for SD's offence...and I am expecting that we will run a very similar offence. I would have no problem with this pick.

If, and ONLY if, we have two R1 picks, and we traded down, and one of those picks is spent on OL, then I wouldn't mind taking Davis. But if he's our only R1 pick, that's a terrible selection considering our top priorities.

Even with 2 R1 picks, I'd still rather us take Lendale White and an OL; let White learn and get carries this year, then next year, when we're ready to compete, he'll be ready to carry the load and be an every-down back, and will be a very nice RB for whoever our QB is at that point.

    cheers

  15. I agree completely.

However, w/ the news of Mawae and Kendall most likely on the way out, we may have no choice but to spend this draft overhauling the OL. I'd really like to see Jones move to Center. He has the talent and measureables to be an all pro there. Then we can spend our # 4 on Brick, and the second pick we can either go BPA w/ perhaps an RB, or maybe even take another OT.

    LT:Ferguson/Cavka/Jones
    LG: Moore/Snell/Rookie
    C:Jones/Late round Rookie
    RG: Rookie/Snell/Moore
    RT:Marcus McNeill/Cavka/Jones

this worries me because is Jones really capable of playing Center? He doesn't have any experience there, does he? We saw what happened with botched snaps and blocking last year. Why not just draft a Center who's played the position for 4 years?

But I suppose if we're gonna move Jones, this year will be the the year to do it since we're not going anywhere anyway. That is, let Jones learn Center in a season that's over before it's even begun.

    cheers

Regarding Adrian Jones.. A former TE who was converted to OT now has the "talent and measurabilities to be an all-pro" at CENTER ?

What on earth is your basis for making such a statement?
    Are you his agent?

No tight end is worth taking in the top 5.

Baker was just starting to prove he could be just that guy before he got hurt last season. The LAST thing we're lacking on this team is guys to catch the football.

I'd take him. But not with the 4th pick
