Now that we've had sometime to analyze our draft picks and see who's a UDFA or where certain certain players value lie, would you of done our draft any different? Play GM here and see if you could make a better draft in your own opinions. Also, If you like our draft over either mine or the suggested ones say so and why if you'd like. Anyways, for help, here's the 2011 draft to help make your "re-draft"- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_NFL_Draft Last thing, keep the trade up the same (doesnt have to be the player though) 1st Round- Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple. I would of kept our first round pick the same for sure. Wilks value was great and he's going to be one HELL of a player. He's the perfect fit for this versatile defense that Rex runs. As much as I loved Ayers, Wilk was just more of a Rex Ryan fit. 3rd Round- Kenrick Ellis, NT, Hampton Hey ya know what Ellis has really grown on me lately. He is just a MONSTER on the line who can really open up our blitzing schemes and constantly collapse the pocket. He's trouble with the law scares me but Rex can turn this player into a nightmare for offensive lines, to be frank, Im excited about this kid. 4th Round- Davon House, CB, New Mexico St. Here's were I start to change things up. The Jets were high on Powell and he should be a great bruiser to keep Greene fresh but IMO House's value is at the late round 4 is insane! This kid IMO has one of the better press coverage skills in this draft as well as some nice ball-hawking skills. He reminds me alot of Tramon Williams, NFL wise, might not get as dominant as he is but the kid plays very similar. Lastly, if drafted I could see us letting go of Cro, giving us more room for our FA's, and signing a vet to have a tandem of Revis, maybe Al Harris?, Kyle Wilson, and House. Not bad IMO. 5th Round- Jeremy Kerley, WR, TCU I love Kerley, he's perfect for the slot and someone that Sanchez will rely on in the future. I didnt exactly like giving a pick up for him because I think he'd be there but the Jets staff loved him and Id bet so did Mark. This pick I'd obviously keep the same. 7th Round- Bruce Miller, OLB, UCF McElroy pick I'll live with, I like him dont get me wrong I could see him as the next Ryan Fitzpatrick, but Id rather sign a UDFA like Pat Delvin or Scott Tolzien who could still sit behind Sanchez and become as good as I think McElroy will. Anyways, back to the player, Id take Bruce here in the early 7th, we went all draft not picking up solid OLB's like Chris Carter and Sam Acho but Miller in the early 7th is solid value and to me this kid is a great situational pass rusher who would to a great job replacing Jason Taylor on our roster. The kids got heart, plays with decent speed, and is always all over the QB. With the addition of two monsters on our DLine, Miller would get alot of looks at the QB. 7th Round- DeAndre McDaniel, FS, Clemson First off, HOW THE HELL DID THIS KID GO UNDRAFTED?!?! Yes maybe people over valued him but CMON! This kid has great upside in the late 7th and in the future could start IMO. He's a great ballhawk type player and makes solid plays in run support, Im hoping the Jets sign him since he's a UDFA but in my re-draft I would have LOVED to have gotten him in the late 7th. To throw in real quick, I think McKnight would have gone undrafted and I think the Jets only took him for Sanchez and fear that he could get drafted to another team. It wasnt a bad move since I get what they were doing but IMO I wouldnt have but hey its a 7th rounder! Now you can simply just like our draft and be done but IMO alot of you would of liked some different players at different spots, so in an attempt to keep my draft brain going as well as yours I'd really like to see what you all think of my "re-draft" and see what you all thought we should of done.
...read an article about McDaniel is this morning's paper. Apparently he may have to miss all of 2011 with a wrist injury that he played through at Clemson. It looks like Clemsuck's medical staff isn't do such a good job with their "star" players.
Didnt he have that injury in September or October? I guess its still not healed or something like that. You know that he's a great kid and could definitely be a starter in the future. But to add, yeah seriously WTF happened to Clemson and their staff? I loved Clemson last year but they fucked up on Bowers, and now McDaniel... Also didnt think fuck up with CJ Spiller before he was drafted? Didnt they keep playing him even though he had a nagging hamstring injury?
Didn't he also beat the shit out of his girlfriend or something? It wasn't some misunderstanding by the cops, he really laid into her...
Supposedly the injury was serious enough that it required season-ending surgery, but for some reason he played the entire season with it. McDaniel isn't a great kid. ...far from it. He's a very talented player though. Clemson's medical staff still denies that DaQuan's knee injury is a very serious one. As for CJ Spiller, I remember him having some sort of toe injury. I think it was turf toe - every time they lost a game, Clemson fans blamed it on that. ...bitch wouldn't shut up, so he tried to cover her face with a pillow and when that didn't work, he threw her down some stairs. Class act.
The bitch needed to be straightened out alright....hahaha. Obviously i dont condone that kind of actions, and that should of dropped him even if it was back in 2008 or 9. But Im just still shocked he went undrafted. Even if it was more about the incident he was touted as a 1st to 2nd rounder last year... There has to be something really wrong with that wrist.
I meant on the field he's a great player, as you mentioned, not exactly saying his character is great though because of the gf incident but he was known as being a well-respected teammate. So basically.... On the field McDaniel is great. Off of it he's a legal troubled young man.
If it's as serious as the reports are saying, he'll have to miss all of 2011 because of surgery. Teams probably didn't want to take a chance on a kid that didn't buy in to much of what Clemson's staff tried to teach him while he was there. I thought he'd be a third round based on talent, and I was definitely shocked that he didn't get picked at all. He'll be a top UDFA.
Its funny because even tho IMO McDaniel and Williams are better prospects than Lefeged , Joe will be picked up over the two of them because he wont be coming into the NFL with a "significant" injury. Crazy how that works out.
Just for fun I went through Clemson's draft history for the past 20 years. There's nothing there. That school is fucking overrated.
House would have been a great pickup. I'd agree with House and Miller, assuming McElroy would have lasted to our 2nd pick in that round. Having said that, we certainly do need a backup QB to develop, and will eventually need a 3rd RB who can step in for Greene when he's banged up. As far as McKnight, the only positive to picking him was that he'll have a competitive advantage once the official offseason actually starts. One thing that I'm sure factored into the decision not to take defensive players late is the timing issue. With the lockout dragging on and looking like it will stretch into mid summer, Jets West had to be a big factor. Defensive rookies simply won't have as much impact this season, as the vast majority of camps being run are offense-minded. I believe Brees has defenders out at his camp, but that's it. Without a member of our defense stepping up, taking an OLB or DB isn't a move that makes us more competitive immediately. Of course, the same can be said of McElroy and Powell, but they at least had the advantage (and McElroy took it) of getting a playbook and learning the offense. Our new DL should have an easier time learning the defense than linebackers and DBs would have, especially a DE conversion. Just a thought. (Also, it looks like Miller may be playing FB at the next level, not DE/OLB)
Hearing that makes my brain hurt. It also makes me think he wanted Owen Marecic on his team, but why not go pick up someone like Boomer Grigsby instead of potentially ruining Miller's career before it starts?
Yeah, Miller's not happy about it, either. Plenty of fullbacks sitting out there in need of a job in today's NFL, and he's converting a defensive prospect?
1) Wilkerson 3) Ellis 4) Davon House 5) Kerley (like this pick a lot) 7) Greg Romeus 7) Deunta Williams/Eric Hagg Would've been beyond awesome IMO.
No reason he can't, he actually fits the mold of Rex OLB better than most. He could probably play up around 270, and provided he isn't shot athletically, still be effective. Certainly a great option as a 7th rounder. Interesting though that he gets picked despite MASSIVE injury concerns and other guys don't with one time deals. And if I were the Jets, the only thing I'd change is adding one of those safeties with the last pick (I'd take Lefeged for this D honestly). The rest I'm pretty comfortable with, and I'm a big Powell fan so no way I'm dropping him.
That is true, scouts must respect his abilities to be able to draft him with such big time injuries, especially an ACL injury. I just see him being way more productive in a 4-3 scheme than 3-4 OLB. He has that nice big size to bull rush and collaspe the pocket cleanly but IMO his lack of explosion coming off an injury plus not being exactly explosive previously would really limit him standing up. Lefeged Id be happy with as well but only because he provides health as well as solid instincts in the open field. As opposed to Deunta and DeAndre being hurt big time. Also do you think House will be a better pro than Powell will be? or are you just saying for the Jets.
For the Jets in the Powell House question, I've said many times that adding another young CB to the team won't really do much to help things in the defensive backfield. House wouldn't see the field over KW as a starter unless he was instantly lights out, and Drew Coleman proved last year how skilled he was in the nickel role. A veteran that can actually push Wilson is the best fit to fill any need at CB. As far as better pro overall goes, I'd go Powell just because I think he's going to be a stud running back. I really think that he'll be challenging for/taking a good number of Greene's carries in 2012. You should also take into account Romeus's overall skillset when it comes to an OLB conversion rather than the few traits that people often look at first. His length and strength make him a fit for both, and his closing speed was dynamic enough to make an impact as a rush LB. I repeat though that his fit with the Jets D is even better than most 34s because of his size and versatility. Lefeged finishes my fits the Jets trifecta here, because he ultimately can do more than McDaniel or Williams would in this defense. The other two are more developed at the position, especially when it comes to plays vs the pass, but I think Lefeged has the athletic potential they lack, and can be an instant impact defender against the run. Long term, he'd be the guy that would step in for Leonhard.
Im surprised youd say Powell will get alot of carries over Greene, but hey Powell's left handed, Green is right handed, so basically one guy pounds the ball to the left and the other pounds the ball too the right hahhaa. All joking aside I think Powell could fit into our offense as a secondary bruiser type guy along side Greene, maybe with a bit more elusiveness. To be Powell reminds me a lot of Fred Jackson, not exactly the pass catching type but can make cuts inside, has surprising burst, and never knocked down easily. Its funny because many compare Greene and Powell and just say hey two bruisers but to me their completely different. I see us maybe running a 3 RB thing like the Giants did in 2008, Having a bruiser like Jacobs in Greene, having a big evader like Ward in Powell, and having an elusive pass catcher like Bradshaw in Tomlinson. Its all about that ground and pound, to me Rex accomplished that big time with Powell. Now to me House will be a great #2, I sort of drafted him there because I actually thought it would be good to have 3 great CBs with House, Wilson, and Revis like the Packers had for a short time with Tramon, Harris, and Woodson, although it did not work out much... I agree with you on Lefeged although IMO Duenta is more NFL ready than he is. I was honestly surprised with his athleticism when I went back to look at some of his games, he has a real shot to be a solid Safety in the future, my biggest concern with Joe is can he cover TE's? He is pretty physical Ill give him that but his short frame mediocre body control concern me when he will be asked to go man.
