I like this John Wendling....good numbers and size.....he is slaed for middle round....do we have any need or interest in this?
I don't think so. Rhodes will be a starter, and Smith and Coleman will be battling for the second job. Washington is Rhodes back-up and the Jets sent Jamie Thompson to the NFLE. We have 3 players who could start and one or two adequate back ups. I think another safety is unnecessary.
We may have players who can play safety for us, but Wendling might be an upgrade. I like him as a player. Great athlete and smart. I have no problem with a late fourth or early fifth on him (assuming we end up with a pick in that range)
we dont need a safety....we need a : CB, OLB, OGx2, TE, WR, DT, and maybe a OT before we address the safety position...
Wendling, Eric Weddle, Sabby Piscitelli, any of those guys slipping into the 4th might be a really good pickup. Piscitelli and Weddle look like 1st day guys though, maybe as high as the mid 2nd round. Of the 3 of them I kind of like Weddle the best just because he is a very versatile player who could work out in a number of different positions. He could gun on special teams, hold for Nugent and come in as a dime short safety on long yardage.
not to mention, is this Washington's last year of his contract? if they find an upgrade, there's no reason to stop him from walking. cheers
