Met-slayers facing the Yankee-slayers. Anyone have any thoughts? Can St. Louis do it? Detroit is obviously the huge favorite here. that NLCS was a real gut punch with all the chances blown. Now will Perez's gutsy performance be remembered? What about The Catch? gonna drown my frustrations, which I can't express with curses or with anything else. This seemed like the year. All set up for Beltran. btw, was the NLCS thread the longest in TGG history? Haven't seen longer.
not going to attract a ton of interest locally, that's for sure. rematch. they've met twice before in ws. leyland and la russa both trying to become 2nd (after Sparky Anderson) to win a WS in both leagues.
everyones saying this is gonna be a cake walk for the tigers, but unless weaver and suppan fall back to earth they're pitching as well as anyone detroit can put out there, and i give the cards the edge offensively.
Go Tigers! One of my Fav MLB playes...Ivan Rodriguez... Pudge is the Man.....A real catcher. Not like Posada who seems to forget shit they teach you in little league about catching...
yeah, the constant stupid posts "detroit will sweep" and that crap. The Cards are playing very well right now. Obviously Detroit has to be favored, but I'd bet anyone St. Louis doesn't get swept like they did vs. Boston. detroit lineup is overrated. key is their power pitching. Will Rolen and Edmonds be able to catch up to the fastballs? If Rolen and Edmonds are shut down, the Cards will really have no shot.
The Tigers lost their last 5 games of the season (including 3 to the Royals), and then beat the Yankees. The Twins came from behind to win the division, and then lost to the A's. The A's had home field advantage, and then were swept by the Tigers. The Dodger won their last 7 games of the season, and then lost to the Mets. The Cards almost had the biggest collapse in history, and then beat both the Padres and the Mets (the latter team with 14 more wins during the regular season). Since the Tigers will be big favorites in the Series, the only thing that would make sense this postseason would be for the Cards to win it in 5.
And, yet somehow, noone outside a few drunk UAW workers and a bunch of ass-backwards hicks will manage to care about this series in any way, shape or form. I know I won't be watching.
The cards do not have the edge offensively, the Cards offense is pretty horrendous w/ the injuries they've had. SL had the one explosion in Game 2 of the LCS but other than that they haven't been great offensively, Det has averaged 5.5 runs per game and hasn't scored fewer than 3 in any postseason game.
When you win 7 games in a row you're probably going to be hitting pretty well as a team. Who knows if that carries over to the WS. Pujols is better then any 3 players put together on the Tigers not named Guillen.
I'll watch but only because I love the game of baseball so much. It'll be hard for St Louis to get as many breaks as they did against the Mets and I don't see the 2 scrubs named Jeff pitching out of their minds again. Like I said in anonther thread I think St. Louis didn't do anything to beat the Mets it was the Mets beating themselves and I see Detroit being too well managed for that. The only way the Tigers lose is if those kids realize in the week they've been off that they aren't supposed to be there and they come back to reality. If they pick up in game 1 where they left off against Oakland forget it, series over. BTW my WS tickets came yesterday, unfortunately they were for game 1 in Oakland..... how about that.
I don't even think I'm going to watch the WS this year. I'm gonna concentrate on staying on top of my MBA courseload. This has to be one of the most boring matchups ever.
Sure when healthy but Pujols had 1 RBI in the LCS, he's not playing well right now. The overall lineup of the Tigers is definitely better.
Throw in the fact that neither Preston Wilson, Juan Encarnacion and Chris Duncan didn't hit (I know Duncan had a HR but not before or after Pujols was batting) and Larussa may have to do some lineup juggling. Detroit has no reaosn to even pitch to HGH until the guys before him and behind him start hitting.
I don't really care as I won't watch a pitch of this series, I just don't think the Cards are going to get swept.
