Zack Rosenblatt on X: "Woody Johnson says the #Jets are not going to just release Zach Wilson. Said they view him as a “valuable asset.” Also said that he thinks a change of scenery would be good for him." / X (twitter.com)
Woody wised up. Or more likely was told what to say on the subject after he mumbled stupidity before.
Are we going to put this one into the file where things the owner says about his football team are meaningless?
This will end well for the Jets. He stays as the #3 behind a 40 year old QB coming off an achilles tear and that guy's immediate backup who has an injury history. If the scriptwriters are listening, I'm not sure I can handle a direct sequel to 2023. When it's time for the Jets' season to come completely unraveled, we need them to come up with something new this time around. It can't just be a repeat of the last two Saleh-era collapses. The final film of the trilogy has to have a little something more to offer.
I see that Woody is doing damage control. I still expect to see Zach traded, and for his sake, I hope he is, but the Jets could wind up keeping him, although I think this is Woody making up for his stupidity earlier.
Can someone please get Woody fitted for a muzzle? Has he ever opened his mouth without embarrassing himself and the team? I guess Woody sees this as a clever strategy to give the Jets leverage by convincing everyone that the team is not desperate to trade Wilson. Yeah, that should work just fine, since I'm sure the rest of the league listens intently to what Woody says and sees him as a man of his word. (eye roll).
I was livid when he trashed the kid before free agency when that was a good time to hype him to try and make some kind of a trade. Now he gives away every tiny bit of leverage, however minuscule it might be. This guy is truly a world-class imbecile.
Don't worry, it won't be a direct sequel. It will be the same exact fucking movie. The kid they've tried to get rid of multiple times, embarrassed both him and themselves ad infinitum, back in the starting position. Get your tickets now, it's going to sell out.
If ZW plays for the Jets season, I will go insane listening to the endless debate about how good he is.
Might be too little, too late and I can only imagine what other front office personnel in the league think of Woody, but you kind of have to say this to try to get any semblance of trade leverage. I don't believe they'd keep him though. I think he's gone regardless, just about how and when
I keep hearing people talk about the cap hit for just cutting his ass. At that point in the offseason does it even matter if we get hit with the $11m cap? FA is basically done with.
I guess if they are able to pull off a trade they can recoup like 5 million dollars. That's enough to add an impact player or 2 role players. There are still some valuable guys out there in the FA market. Other teams are probably asking the Jets to add in a 6th round pick with Wilson and offering a conditional 7th in the 2025 draft. Something like that would be my best guess. And I would absolutely do it if that were the case.
Yeah I guess. The post 6/1 savings is the same as just cutting him now so they may as well just wait until June if they can't get anything for him now.
