I don't want him lumped in with the other garbage and No-Doubt-About-Its fired within hours of the end of the regular season. Wait a few days (weeks ?) to mull things over. Besides, our new HC is probably coaching in the playoffs anyway, right ?
If he's getting fired, which he is, it's going to be on Monday. It would be a dick move not to let him move on and pursue other opportunities immediately if you know you are not going to retain his services.
Well, here is my View from the far side on this subject 1- if Woody retains Idzik, and jointly agree to search for a new coach, then he will for sure get axed Monday 2- if Woody wants an independent assessment from the new consultants then no action might occur for a few weeks 3- if Woody fires Idzik he might not take any action on Rex till the new GM is on board, giving him the task and the choice Something tells me I'm not going to be happy on Monday when nothing will be announced
It doesn't really matter what day you put your trash on the curb, the garbage man collects it when he comes by anyway. It's just more polite to not leave it there for 3 days before the truck comes around again.
How about waiting 2-3 days ? That way, we avoid the Black Monday Rush and Rex still has plenty of time to pursue any opportunities. If Trestman is fired in Chicago (80-20 he is), I think Rex is a STRONG candidate to lead the Bears (he may be the LEADING candidate). The columnists out there are very pro-Rex and unless the Bears get a big name coach (unlikely, they're cheap $$$), Rex should have a great shot at that job. They think the "O" fixes itself with a new OC (the existing OC trashed Cutler in the press) but want the "D" fixed which should be right up Rex's alley.
Who gives a shit, just fucking end the misery immediately and move on. This is business, no one cares about feelings. The man is paid millions to do a job, it isn't his birthright.
I love Rex Ryan too but if you're moving on do it Monday and begin interviewing new candidates before you miss out on the best ones. Seems obvious.
If the Jets are really going to blow it all up and start over they need to do that quickly. Prolonging the departures of the people involved is just going to muddy the waters for prospective candidates trying to divine the Jets true intentions. The depth chart is going to be a minefield from the moment that Rex and/or Idzik depart. Getting that minefield swept is going to be job one for whoever replaces them.
In reality we'll be downgrading at coach anyways so keeping Rex on for a couple days wouldn't matter too much. Not like we would miss out on the best candidate available to replace him. But it wouldnt be fair to Rex. Chances are the Bears job opens up on Monday. Atlanta's too if they lose on Sunday. We've already put out the myth that he isnt a good coach because of the garbage he's been giving to work with these last 4 seasons , lets not do anything else to damage his career. After all he's given us more then the next coach will. Rex has a much brighter outlook right now then any other coaching or GM candidate out there for us.
Besides god forbid we prevent him from getting an NFC job this year and he lays out and then goes and takes the Miami job next offseason when they finally can Philbin
I'm willing to bet (and in fact already have with a couple of guys) that Rex Ryan will NOT get a HC job this off-season - much less immediately. I say he goes to TV or takes a year off and comes back as a DC first.
Well Im not considering Harbaugh a candidate for us. Its pretty much certain already that he wont be coming here. So in all likelyhood we'll be downgrading at the head coaching position atleast in terms of resume.
